Grant-writer – Resource Developer: Group at SANCCOB

The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) seeks to employ a full-time grant writer and experienced fundraiser in the position of Resource Developer: Group to be based at its Table View centre in the Western Cape. The chosen candidate will manage group donor relations and acquire funding from existing and new funders by presenting SANCCOB’s fundraising projects and programmes, as well as donor reports on project outcomes.

The Resource Developer: Group will also be required to identify new opportunities for funding to augment SANCCOB’s resources in Cape Town (Western Cape) and Gqeberha (Eastern Cape). The primary focus and responsibility is to diversify and expand SANCCOB’s revenue streams in support of the organisation’s strategic plan for sustainability and growth.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Secure funding from existing and new donors
• Identify potential funders for funding opportunities and monitor grant notification sites for calls for proposals
• Present projects and programmes to potential and existing funders
• Manage relations with current and new zoos, aquaria, trusts, foundations, and overseas development agencies
• Meet fundraising targets to support SANCCOB’s operational needs and projects
• Secure funding from Government authorities
• Write progress reports with impactful patient stories for local and international funders
• Manage donor relationships with funders within SANCCOB’s group portfolio
• Facilitate and manage donor gatherings/events applicable to donor portfolio
• Maintain excellent updated records of donor contact details and donor communication on SANCCOB’s data management system
• Assist with fundraising and marketing within the resource development department

Requirements:

• At least five years of fundraising and/or grant writing experience and a sound knowledge of fundraising best practices
• Tertiary qualification in the fields of development studies, fundraising, marketing, communication, social sciences or other related fields will be advantageous
• Experience with online communication tools/online marketing preferable
• People-oriented; understands people and comfortable in cultivating and managing stakeholder relationships
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Articulate ability to present a concept to motivate action
• Effective communication skills
• Result driven in a team environment, innovative, passionate and commitment to the team and the cause
• Financially literate and comfortable to work with budgets and present financial information
• South African citizen or with permanent residency or valid work permit
• Own vehicle and valid driver’s license
