    Forester - Sutton

    Description

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Forester to implement and achieve the operational estate management, targets for fibre production within resource and SHEQ parameters to ensure a sustainable fibre supply.

    As a Forester, you will be responsible for:

    • Prepare land & re-establish according to Planning’s recommendations for re-establishment (planting & coppice regeneration) to achieve Temporary Unplanted targets within budget constraints.
    • Manage the re-establishment to achieve maximum stocking within silvicultural standards.
    • Inspect operations regularly (at least weekly) to identify risks & ensure the timeous action (blanking & pest control, coppice management).
    • Ensure all operations comply with service level agreement.
    • Protect crops from weed competition, pests and diseases by regular field inspections & the timing of operations to achieve maximum yields within cost constraints.
    • Develop a pre-harvest plan and conduct a risk assessment per compartment in order to mitigate potential risks.
    • Conduct interim inspections to monitor and ensure adherence to safety and Mill quality specifications.
    • Ensure daily production targets are managed effectively and comply with legislative and company policies & procedures.
    • Identify and ensure road & depot/sidings maintenance plans are communicated and implemented effectively.
    • Use Fire Risk Management System (FRMS) to identify risks, record & implement fire control procedures.
    • Implement the Annual Plan of Operations for both commercial and open areas, and ensure operations comply with standards and service level agreements.
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained & managed effectively according to set standards within budget constraints.
    • Ensure that the vehicle fleet is maintained & managed according to the lease agreement, Sappi guidelines & budget. Ensure that relations with communities, other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced.
    • Ensure that a professional relationship with the contractor is maintained and that quality, delivery and compliance standards as set out in the job instruction system and service level agreement are adhered to.
    • Ensure that contractor shifts are balanced to match the annual plan of operations, the contract is viable, and risks mitigated accordingly.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Forestry or Agriculture or Horticulture
    • Up to 1 year relevant experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Winder Operator KLB

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Winder Operator KLB to ensure safely and efficiently operates the Winder by assisting the Winderman with duties, to ensure optimum production output and quality at the best cost with minimum downtime, rejections and waste.

    As a Winder Operator KLB , you will be responsible for:

    • Prepares equipment for start-up and shutdown procedures.
    • Operates Overhead crane to load reels onto unwind stand.
    • Sets up and checks slitter knives, ensuring they are sharp and undamaged, as well as inspecting drive drums and motors.
    • Feeds paper through Winder machine.
    • Removes side runs using OTIS lift to basement.
    • Ensures availability of correct-sized cores at Winder during shift.
    • Ejects empty spools and loads new Jumbo onto back stand.
    • Transfers paper webs onto conveyor system in front of Winder.

    What are we looking for:

    • Grade 12 (Maths and Science) or N3 Pulp and Paper.
    • Minimum 1 year experience working on a Paper Machine manufacturing process.

    Operator : Fin Pulper

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for Operator : Fin Pulper to ensure the supply of broke pulp to the Paper machine, as per required furnish to maintain maximum production.

    As Operator: Fin Pulper, you will be responsible for:

    • Inspecting equipment in section and checking production work in progress
    • Making and transferring pulper charge of the correct consistency for the respective grades
    • Assisting with the coater rewinder repulper operation and loading the conveyor with broke pallets, while maintaining broke tower levels at all times.
    • Maintaining a high standard of safety and housekeeping at Trimvac area, Coater rewind area and finishing pulper
    • Liaise with finishing and paper sections regarding broke requirements
    • Carries out any other reasonable duties/tasks as requested by the Supervisor
    • Operating guillotine; conveyor and hoist to cut non-conforming reels on guillotine
    • Carrying out reasonable tasks and instructions given by Supervisor
    • Understanding & complying with all SHEQ requirements of the job and carrying out BBS Observations

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric or equivalent
    • N3 or NCV Level 4 in Pulp & Paper 
    • One year of experience working in a paper manufacturing environment, with practical experience in the Finishing department.
    • Operating the hoist and guillotine (advantageous)

    Planning Superintendent

    Description

    We Are Hiring: Planning Superintendent

    • The Planning Superintendent is responsible for establishing and sustaining a robust maintenance planning, shutdown planning, failure analysis, and maintenance performance reporting infrastructure at Ngodwana Mill, supporting the mill’s journey toward becoming a World Class Business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Shutdown Planning & Execution: Coordinate and maintain the mill shutdown schedule, ensuring effective forward planning and strict compliance with the Shutdown Business Process by managing planners and coaching engineers.
    • Work Management & Planning: Establish and sustain effective weekly and daily planning processes to ensure optimal control of work in progress.
    • Preventative Maintenance Management: Maintain and continuously improve preventative maintenance plans in SAP R/3 through regular audits and schedule optimisation.
    • Failure Analysis & Reliability Improvement: Implement and manage structured failure analysis frameworks, including documentation, flowcharts, and supporting tools.
    • Corrective Maintenance & Quality Control: Develop and manage repetitive task lists, Quality Control Procedures (QCPs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and SAP R/3 master data to improve job quality and spares availability.
    • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Provide accurate weekly maintenance and engineering performance reports to Engineering, Maintenance, and Planning & Development management.
    • Training & Systems Coaching: Act as an SAP PM coach by training and advising users on best-practice system usage, including rotable control and the rotable repair cycle, and auditing compliance.
    • People Development & MDT Support: Build, develop, and maintain competent, motivated teams while providing effective support to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering or a Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience.

    • SAP knowledge will be an added advantage.

    • Performing and supporting skilled maintenance work to resolve operational issues and complete projects effectively.
    • Managing tools, equipment, vehicles, master data accuracy, and work order processes to support maintenance objectives.
    • Leading people management activities, including performance management, skills development, attendance control, and participation in recruitment processes.
    • Controlling maintenance-related costs within budget, preparing shift reports, communicating with stakeholders, and responding to customer feedback.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Relevant Engineering qualification at NQF Level 5 or N4 Engineering Studies.
    • Recognised Trade Certificate (Manpower/SETA accredited).
    • Minimum of 5 years’ post–trade test experience in plant operations within a heavy industrial environment.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office package).
    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Experience within the Pulp and Paper industry.
    • Working knowledge of SAP.
    • Supervision / Management experience advantageous
