Group Specialist: Packaging & Process Engineering at The Coca-Cola Company

Job Description    

• Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) presents an exciting opportunity for a Group Specialist Packaging & Process Engineering, to join the Group Projects team at CCBA.

Key Duties & Responsibilities    

• Packaging & Process Engineering Project Scoping and Design: Manage the scoping, design, and specification of Packaging & Process Engineering projects, ensuring alignment with CCBA business plans, technical and industry standards. Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), suppliers and consultants to define technical requirements and equipment specifications.
• Specialised Expertise and Technical Support: Provide specialised technical support to operational teams, guiding them on packaging and processing equipment systems. Address maintenance and engineering issues, offering solutions for performance improvement, operational efficiency, troubleshooting, and small-scale upgrades.
• Packaging & Process Engineering Equipment Selection and Evaluation: Lead the selection and evaluation of packaging and processing equipment, working with OEM suppliers to identify the most suitable technologies for CCBA’s needs. Assist in reviewing supplier proposals and making recommendations for equipment selection.
• Packaging & Process Integration and Commissioning Support: Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of packaging and processing equipment with utilities and other systems. Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of equipment.
• Packaging & Process Optimisation and Continuous Improvement: Support efforts to optimise packaging and process performance, focusing on improving packaging line efficiency, energy usage ratios (EUR) and water usage ratios (WUR). Implement continuous improvement practices to meet ESG targets and global benchmarks.
• Post-Project Review and Process Evaluation: Conduct post-project reviews to assess the success of Packaging and Process Engineering projects. Evaluate performance against initial project goals and recommended actions for improvements based on findings from pre-delivery, installation, and post-project assessments.

Skills, Experience & Education    
Qualifications:

• BSc in Mechanical or Process Engineering (ideally with packaging equipment specialisation)

Experience:

• 10 years predominantly in Packaging / Process Engineering
• Advanced knowledge of engineering principles
• Specialised Packaging & Process Engineering technical knowledge, skill & competence
• Knowledge and experience of process simulations and standard operating procedures
• Deep understanding of Process Engineering environmental regulations, processes and challenges
• Advanced competence in Project Management

Skills:

• Expertise in designing and optimising systems for efficiency, safety, and compliance, focusing on waste reduction and resource efficiency.
• Skilled in managing project scope, budgets, timelines, and coordination with teams to ensure successful execution.
• Knowledge of selecting, specifying, and commissioning process engineering equipment, staying updated on industry innovations.
• Ensuring designs and operations meet safety and regulatory standards, with expertise in risk management and HAZOP/HACCP studies.
• Managing supplier relationships, overseeing tender processes, and ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Proficient in using software to analyse data, track project performance, and provide actionable insights for decision-making.
