Handyman at SA Metal Group

• The SA Steelworks Division has a position for a, committed, hardworking and motivated Handyman at our SA Steelworks plant in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for general painting and maintenance of buildings and offices.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to

• Assist with maintenance on buildings, workshops and office spaces
• Painting of fabricated structures, parts, equipment and machinery
• Ensure Painting work is performed in well-ventilated areas
• Load, unload and move tools, equipment and materials
• Ensure workspace is kept neat and tidy (Housekeeping)
• Ensure tools and equipment are kept clean and operational for tasks to be completed
• Perform basic plumbing repairs
• Perform basic woodwork functions – cutting of floor boards and panels
• Perform basic welding and cutting operations (Advantage)

Applicants must have the following qualifying experience and attributes

• Hard working and self-motivated
• Comfortable working at heights
• Ability to operate Forklift, Cherry picker, Scissor lift and Overhead Crane
• Previous experience with painting and surface preparation
• Basic familiarity with hand tools and equipment: tape measure, hacksaw, drilling machine (pedestal and portable), angle grinder, spirit level, jigsaw
• Strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Matric certificate or equivalent, Grade 11 will also be considered
• Ability to work under challenging conditions
• In good health, physically fit
