    Head of Power Southern Africa

    The new Head of Power - South Africa will be expected to focus on winning  and delivery of projects offering a suite of power-related services including, but not  limited to, independent engineering, owner’s engineering, performance, energy storage, grid, and connection services for domestic and international clients drawn from lenders,  developers, owners, investors and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will  augment our existing client base, developing scope of work and proposals and taking  responsibility for the HoPSA pipeline. The Head of Power – South Africa will be responsible for the local cost centre including all profit and loss aspects of all HoPSA activities with the Power division.  The Head of Power – South Africa will work closely with other geographical and technical areas within RINA to support the global  aspirations of our business. 

    Responsabilities

    • Represent RINA as a leading consultancy in Power (and Renewables) to  the industry from the position of Head of Power – South Africa
    • Responsible for HoSPA cost centre P&L and deliverables; 
    • Work alongside RINA colleagues, driving and securing new work, leading on  high quality bids and expanding the current client base with your extensive  network; 
    • Act as Project Director or Project Manager to deliver a variety of projects  including feasibility analyses, energy modelling, due diligence, procurement,  construction support, grid connection and operational services; 
    • Integrate seamlessly with other relevant teams to ensure our clients are  offered an integrated service; 
    • Network at all levels within RINA, organisations and external bodies,  representing RINA at industry conferences, seminars, events, etc. 
    • Manage an effective team to facilitate achievement of its full potential; 
    • Collaborate with other business functions to achieve shared business objectives.

    Knowledge

    Essential: 

    • Knowledge and experience of providing Power/Renewables consultancy services to owners, lenders, developers, operators or other stakeholders 
    • Managerial experience in coordinating people in a project environment 
    • P&L responsibility 
    • Commercial/contractual experience in respect of Power/Renewables projects 
    • Some knowledge of planning application processes and requirements; 
    • Basic knowledge of each of: onshore wind, offshore wind, solar PV; 
    • Comprehensive knowledge of at least one of: onshore wind, solar PV. 

    Advantageous: 

    • Advanced knowledge of each of: onshore wind, offshore wind, solar PV. 
    • Advanced understanding of international transmission and distribution grids (LV to 400 kV), grid code requirements, industry-accepted practices and grid  connection processes 
    • Knowledge of engineering approaches to resolving grid integration issues 
    • Advanced knowledge of planning application processes and requirements 

    Experience

    Essential: 

    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a relevant related discipline (may  include post-graduate studies if applicable); 
    • Extensive experience in a power and renewables and engineering; 
    • Track record of successful management of project teams and projects in a  relevant field, such as engineering consultancy or EPC; 
    • Consulting engineering experience; 
    • Strong experience, both technical and commercial, of how energy assets  are developed, constructed, operated and financed 
    • Strong level of experience reviewing EPC or multi-contract, O&M, grid  connection, etc. contracts, including review and drafting of technical  specifications and contract negotiations; 
    • Review of civil, electrical and structural designs, studies, permitting grid, H&S documentation either directly or with support of other specialists; 
    • Energy site presence (e.g. PAC/FAC witnessing); 
    • Competitive proposal preparation for energy BESS projects; 

    Advantageous: 

    • Design and specification of HV substation equipment; 
    • Grid network engineering for renewables projects and micro-grids;
    • Experience working for IFIs, and CAD design
    • Static and dynamic power system studies; 
    • Responsibility for planning applications for energy projects
    • Energy system design (electrical, layout etc.); 
    • Grid  network/infrastructure planning
    • Energy system design (electrical, layout etc.);
