Head of Safety Rustenburg Operations at Implats

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

• Developing a safety strategy for Rustenburg operation aligned to the Implats strategy. Establish and manage an audit inspection function ensuring compliance and reporting against the strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Mine Manager's certificate or Engineering Government Certificate of Competence (GCC).
• BTECH in Health and Safety, BSC Mining degree and National Diploma in Safety Management are desirable.
• Must have a valid medical certificate or to be medical fit in order to obtain such a certificate
• Minimum of 5 years senior management experience in Mining, Engineering and Processing.
• Pre experience in safety management (underground mining) is desirable MHSA is essential.
• COIDA (compensation of occupational injury and diseases act)
• Underground hard rock mining and Processing
• Fatal Risk Control Protocols
• Control Management MUE’s
• Excellent communication, report writing, presentation and analytical skills
• Ability to conduct audits
• An energetic and motivational leader

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

• Developing an annual safety business plan with associated objectives for Rustenburg that supports the Implats Business plan.
• Developing a leading and lagging indicators to measure performance against the safety business plan and establish monthly and quarterly reports of these indicators.
• Developing any mandatory code of practice applicable to safety.
• Establishing the necessary legal safety structures for the Rustenburg operation.
• Developing managerial electronic systems for managing risk, safety statistics, Rand Mutual claims, audits and inspections.
• Updating the operation on national safety issues through various sources e.g. Chamber of Mines.
• Providing and establish formal consultation processes with the Health and Safety rep structures and office bearers.
• Continuously seeking new initiatives to improve the safety culture
• Conducting analysis of the leading and lagging indicators.
• Establishing an Organizational Risk Assessment (ORA) for safety and manage those risks.
