    Head: Online Education and Course and Curriculum Design

    The role provides strategic leadership and management for blended and online learning at UCT aligned with UCT’s Vision 2030 and Digitally Enabled Education imperatives, in the areas of curriculum and course design, learning design and digital media. This position plays a key strategic role in leading and supporting our course and curriculum design services which includes ongoing staff support as well as course development work. We are looking for someone who is passionate, motivated and agile to help drive us toward our broader vision, while overseeing design and delivery of high-quality student-centred experiences that are socially responsive and contextually relevant.

    Requirements:

    • An NQF level 9 qualification (Master’s Degree) preferably in education, educational technology or ICTs in education or a cognate discipline.
    • 7 years relevant work experience, including at least 5 years’ senior leadership experience related to the provision of online and blended learning in a tertiary education context.
    • Experience of strategic leadership in digital education
    • Experience of programme management and evaluation for blended and online learning projects and initiatives.
    • Demonstrable experience in operational management and capacity development for curriculum and course design, learning design and digital media.
    • Understanding of the integration of educational technology and tools into course curricula, and the underpinning theories and frameworks
    • Proficiency with educational technologies and tools.
    • Demonstrable experience of business planning processes and operational models for digitally enabled education.
    • Experience in conducting and applying research in digitally enabled education.
    • Experience of interpreting and providing input into policy, and its implementation at an institutional level.
    • Experience of managing complex project teams, relationships, and systems.
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written) with sound interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Experience of engaging with and managing internal and external stakeholders and stakeholder relationships at multiple levels.

    Advantageous:

    • Familiarity with multimedia and video production.

    Responsibilities:

    • Accountable for the leadership and management of the Course and Curriculum Design team and its two units: the Digital Media Unit and the Learning Design Team.
    • Line management responsibility for senior staff in the Course and Curriculum Design team.
    • Supporting the strategy and conceptualisation of the digitally enabled education project across the university.
    • Provide programme management and operational direction for online and blended education initiatives.
    • Participation in relevant departmental, faculty and institutional committees.
    • Conduct, support and coordinate applied research and evaluation related to CILT’s work.

    The annual cost of employment is between R906 943 and R1066 991.
