Horticulturist at Faircape Group

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Provides professional advice on the selection, ordering, planting, and maintenance of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and turf grasses on site.
• Plans and designs annual and perennial flower beds.
• Grows potted plants and nursery stock and maintains records on the growing operation.
• Trains and supervises subordinate personnel in operations and in the proper methods and techniques of planting plants.
• Prepares orders for various types of plants and seeds.
• Inventories, maps, and labels trees and plants on site for instructional and maintenance purposes.
• Managing weed/ pest and disease control programmes.
• Analysing horticultural yields and optional cost.
• Prepares fertilizer programs for various types of plants.
• Irrigation scheduling, implementation and maintenance.
• Management and implementation of new projects.
• Performs related duties as required.

Requirements
Qualifications

• Matric
• Relevant qualifications in Agriculture, Horticulture or Biological Sciences.

Experience and Knowledge

• Minimum of 5 years experience in horticulture/agriculture field.
• Experience in managing a successful garden or agricultural operation at the highest level.

Skills and Attributes

• Strong management skills.
• Well-organised individual.
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and drainage.
• Careful, conservative, exacting, demanding and critical behaviour is required.
• The job entails a strong task, hands-on approach, good attention to detail and close follow-up.
• Thorough knowledge of plant propagation and culturation.
• Knowledge of the elementary principles of landscaping.
