Key Output

•  Assembly and testing of hydraulic hoses as per customer requirements and to CATERPILLAR hose information system (HIS) specification
•  Adherence to contamination control requirements − Ensure a safe and healthy work environment
•  Ensure machinery is kept in a good working condition and calibrated as per factory specification
•  Accountable for keeping of hose assembly register
•  Ensure that work areas are maintained, clean and hazard free at all times
•  Ensure a development action plan is available and updated monthly for the Trainee Hose Assembler
•  Ensure that the trainee completes training as per DAP
•  Receive hose requirement documentation from Exxaro Grootegeluk
•  Verify part number / hose assembly against Hydraulic Information System (HIS) to validate correct specifications / requirements
•  Pick loose parts dependant on plant specific layout and process
•  Select correct hose and cut to specification
•  Adhere to contamination control guidelines for hose cleaning
•  Assemble and\or build hydraulic hoses per sample as and when required to Caterpillar specification
•  Tag hose with correct information, Seal and despatch assembled hoses as required
•  Sign off hose assembly in hose register
•  Train Hose Trainee to identify, assemble and build hoses assemblies daily.
•  Assist in other areas within the on-site parts stores at the BWE Grootegeluk Mine stores as and when required

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

•  Minimum Required Qualification - Grade 12 − Caterpillar Certified Hydraulic Hose Assembler
•  Minimum Required Experience – at least 3 Years’ experience in hydraulic hose assembly – working knowledge of all machinery – working experience with MS Office, Caterpillar SIS2 & HIS and SAP systems
•  Minimum required competencies – attention to detail, verbal and written communication (including listening), applied business numeracy, rule orientation, ethical behaviour, stress tolerance and resilience, teamwork and mechanical reasoning
•  Level of autonomy in decision making – eliminate wastage when cutting new hose rolls, recommend maintenance items for hose cutting equipment, identify risk and decide on safe working practices and environment, priority management of critical work
•  Communication – interact with customer , field service personnel , hose trainee and other related employees
•  Engage with hose specialist on assembly procedures and processes . Engage with customers to ascertain hose assembly requirements, communicate assembly lead-time to customer. Engage with stores employees in the picking of hoses and couplings.
