    Human Rights and Advocacy Reactor - Polokwane

    Job Description

    We are looking to appoint a Human Rights and Advocacy Reactor to work closely with clients at community level, and work under the supervision of the Human Rights Advocacy Officer, other partner sub recipients’ organization and the Anova outreach Team in Human Rights Violation Case finding, document, report and refer cases for further interventions.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Anti- Stigma & Discrimination Campaigns, Community Dialogues, and Promotion of Legal Literacy and Addressing Structural Barriers towards accessibility to healthcare services;

    • Maintain and support the human rights components of the Men who have sex with other men, and as Key Population in Global Fund/BZ supported districts.
    • Play a vital role in ensuring functional integration of human rights interventions through systematic referral systems between communities, health facilities, law firms, SAPS, Thuthuzela Care Centres and local service providers.
    • Conduct Advocacy Issue identification events working with the MSM Community
    • Assist in the development and implementation of action plans to address prioritised advocacy issues
    • Identification of Human Rights violation cases
    • Support linkage to care of key and vulnerable populations, especially the LGBTI community.
    • Mobilize participants for focus group discussions/creative spaces/Community Dialogues for MSM
    • Develop, strengthen, and sustain partnership with relevant key stakeholders in the community
    • Refer for case management and tracking for all reported human rights violation cases of MSM
    • Ensure linkage and referral systems between service providers
    • Monitor and report on successes including challenges of the referral system and troubleshoot potential challenges working with the Human Rights Advocacy Officer
    • Record, document and HRV refer cases and thereafter provide feedback on reported cases
    • Compile and submit Weekly/Monthly /quarterly narrative and other relevant reports to the HRA Officer
    • Manage communication with stakeholders

    Reporting and Administration

    • Prepare and submit Weekly statistics reports and plans
    • Ensure that all registers and HRV M&E Tools are scanned and uploaded weekly
    • Ensure that all registers, HRV M&E Tools are filed under lock and key
    • Submit own weekly plans to HRA Officer

    Perform duties as assigned by line manager.
    Minimum qualifications and experience:

    • Grade 12
    • RTCQI Certificate/HTS Counselling Certificate
    • Social Auxiliary Worker qualification would be an added advantage
    • Experience in working on Human Rights/Sexual Reproductive Health/TB and HIV/AIDS in the NGO or government sector  
    • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a similar role
    • Knowledge and exposure to a range of human rights issues including barriers to accessing legal and health services in Global Fund supported districts
    • Proficiency in speaking and writing, in English and any local language
    • Organising and negotiation skills
    • Ability to work with people of all backgrounds.
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of the district and community resources in the district.
    • Driver’s license and the ability to drive
    • Very high-level understanding of key populations especially MSM / WSW.
    • Significant up-to-date knowledge of HIV and AIDS and TB and STIs and appropriate responses to them.
    • Good verbal communication in the provincial languages
    • Experience in working with MS Office package (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, PowerPoint)
