    International Quality Assurance Manager

    Overview    

    • The International Quality Assurance Manager plays a critical leadership role in the strategic design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the Quality Management System (QMS) within a global mining explosives manufacturing and supply organization. This position demands deep expertise in both Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC), comprehensive knowledge of mining and explosives regulations, technical expertise to track product information and the capability to lead and influence a culturally diverse, international team.
    • Working in close collaboration with SHERQ, operations, manufacturing, and compliance functions, the incumbent ensures product quality, regulatory adherence, and operational excellence aligned with ISO standards and global benchmarks. The role aims to cultivate a high-performance, quality-driven culture across the business.

    Qualifications    

    • BTech/BEng/BSc in Chemical/Metallurgical/Mining Engineering OR BTech/BEng/BSc in Industrial Engineering

    The following certifications would be desirable:

    • Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) or Lean certification.
    • Certified Quality Manager (ASQ, IRCA, or equivalent).
    • Quality Management

    Experience    

    • 8 years of quality management experience, with 5 years in a leadership role.
    • Experience in the mining sector, manufacturing, or explosives technology.
    • Proven track record in implementing QMS, auditing, and regulatory compliance.
    • Experience managing multi-site and international quality operations.

    Duties    
    The incumbent’s key responsibilities include:

    Quality Management Systems (QMS)

    • Design, implement and manage an ISO 9001-compliant QMS.
    • Conduct regular gap analyses, internal/external audits, and compliance reviews.
    • Drive continual improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and risk-based approaches.

    Quality Assurance & Control

    • Develop and maintain QA/QC frameworks for the production and application of our range of products.
    • Oversee product and process design protocols, inspections, and release criteria.
    • Manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) and non-conformance reporting (NCRs).
    • Lead investigations and root cause analyses to ensure robust issue resolution.

    Regulatory & Legislative Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with South African regulations (MHSA, OHSA, Explosives Act) and international standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).
    • Coordinate audits with certification entities and ensure license renewals.

    Onsite Operations & Technical Support

    • Provide onsite guidance on quality practices and best-in-class standards.
    • Support safe, quality-driven manufacturing and field services.
    • Embed quality systems within site operations through coaching and real-time support

    Supplier & Customer Quality Management

    • Oversee supplier audits and manage supplier quality agreements.
    • Resolve customer complaints related to quality and lead root cause actions.
    • Work closely with commercial teams to understand customer needs and deliver high-quality service and product standards.

    Team Leadership & Capability Building

    • Organize training on quality systems, risk management, and compliance.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.

    • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

    Systems & Tools

    • Proficient in QMS platforms.
    • Competence in ERP systems and digital transformation of quality systems.

    Knowledge

    • High attention to detail with a proactive, results-driven mindset.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and drive alignment.
    • Passion for safety, compliance, and innovation in quality practices.
    • Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-risk manufacturing environments.
