    Head of Clinical Department: Psychiatry (Sterkfontein Hospital)

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Specialist: Psychiatry. Current registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist: Psychiatry. A minimum of 7 years of appropriate experience in Psychiatry as a Medical Specialist. A minimum of 3 years of appropriate experience in management in clinical setting (Head of Clinical Unit/Department or similar). Either a qualification in Forensic Psychiatry subspeciality or a minimum of 3 years of experience in forensic psychiatry. Computer literacy (Ms Word, Ms Excel, PowerPoint). Sound knowledge of government regulations, policies and acts. The ability to interpret and implement policies. Project management skills. Teambuilding, people and interpersonal relations skills. Communication skills (verbal and written) Organizational, problem solving and interventional skills. Highly motivated and enthusiastic to contribute to the psychiatric care and services. The ability to work under pressure, lead transformational change in a complex environment and the ability to manage change in the department. Experience in administration, finance, education and research. A special interest or expertise in a branch of the specialty (this experience should be in terms of clinical service provision, teaching, administration and research). Additional qualifications/training in Psychiatry specialties, a higher degree in Health Science (PhDs) other than the degree for specialization and experience in the Public Sector will be an advantage.

    Duties :

    • Co-ordinate, manage and administer efficient and cost-effective psychiatric services at the institution. Manage human resources in the clinical department, including Clinical Support and Therapeutic Services (CSTS) and support staff members. This includes recruitments, performance management and development, department’s workplan management and work allocation. Oversee the management of financial and other resources allocated to the clinical department. Oversee and ensure good governance in the department, clinical governance and quality assurance in the hospital. Perform clinical service delivery including overtime services when required. Manage all stakeholders’ involvement with the Clinical Department including the University, SAPS, DoJ and GDoH. Involvement with the Policies and planning of the Hospital, in keeping with the Operational and Strategic Plans for GDoH. This includes liaison with all relevant entities linked with GDoH and the NDoH. Maintain service relationships with other health facilities in the areas that is serviced by Sterkfontein Hopsital, as well as beyond the Province as needed. Provide administrative, managerial and governance inputs to the hospital’s management structures where appropriate. Ensure the coordination of activities necessary for quality and efficient 24-hour Patient Care. Participate in Clinical Care Audits, Risk Management and other strategies to improve patient outcomes. Oversee and maintain research in the department. Oversee the management and provision of appropriate and relevant teaching and training in psychiatry, including undergraduate, postgraduate and subspecialty training. Ensure that clinical teaching and supervision of medical staff are of adequate standards. governance structures of Sterkfontein Hospital, as delegated by the CEO and/or Executive Committee of the hospital. Participate in university academic management activities, including membership of committees in the Faculty of Health Sciences as a whole and in the university’s Department of Psychiatry.

    Medical Officer Grade 1 to 3: Surgery (Ophthalmology) ( Groote Schuur Hospital)

    Requirements:

    • Ability to work well within a group at all levels of authority. Ability to communicate with patients and colleagues. Computer literate to facilitate patient care, research and administration. Ability to use a slit lamp and do a basic eye examination. Basic ophthalmology clinical and surgical experience. An interest in learning ophthalmology and commitment to service.

    Head Of Unit - Anaesthsia (Helen Joseph Hospital)

    Requirements :

    • The applicant must be registered as an Anaesthetist with the HPCSA for at least 10 years and currently registered by HPCSA for independent practice as an anaesthetist. The applicant should be currently working fulltime in an academic hospital for 10 years, must be willing to work as a joint appointment between Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital and Wits School of Health Sciences, must have published at least 10 papers locally or internationally in the past 10 years. Skills: Good written and communication skills. Interpersonal, supervisory, planning and organizing skills. Knowledge and experience in medical teaching and training, financial and procurement management in the public sector, relevant legislation and policies pertaining to the medical field and practice. Be self -motivated. Good computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Power-point.

    Duties :

    • Academic Duties: Teaching, training and examination of medical and non-medical undergraduate and postgraduate staff, as well as to comply with Wits University, Health Sciences Faculty, HPCSA and Public Service policies and regulations. The applicant must be prepared to travel beyond Gauteng to perform academic and service outreach. Management and Administration of the Anaesthetic Department: Supervise and coordinate peri/intra-operative and chronic pain management services. Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and form part of various committees as appointed within the institution. Manage leave, commuted overtime and perform PMDS of subordinates. Must be prepared to work after hours when required. Implement Ideal Hospital Framework requirements. Deputize for the Surgery Division Clinical Manager when required.

    Medical Specialist: Psychiatry (Sterkfontein Hospital)

    Requirements :

    • Grade 1 - FCPsych (SA) and/or MMed (Psychiatry) and registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist (psychiatrist). Grade 2- additional 5 years since registration as a specialist. Grade 3- additional 10 years since registration as a specialist. The post is a joint appointment of the Gauteng Department of Health and the University of the Witwatersrand Department of Psychiatry. Newly qualified specialists will be considered they have received results of MMed and FCPsych, but the registration with HPCSA is still pending. This MUST be indicated in Z83 or CV. Please note that successful candidates will need to be registered with HPCSA as specialist psychiatrist before they can be appointed as a such.

    Duties :

    • Include Clinical Service Delivery: Assess, treat monitor mental health care users in line with the Mental Health Care Act No 17 of 2002. Participate in forensic psychiatric work (forensic assessments in terms of section 79 of Criminal Procedure Act as well as the management of state patients). Prepare psychiatric and medico-legal reports as required. Lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. Liaise with Department of Justice. Teaching and training: Supervision, teaching and assessment of postgraduate and undergraduate students. This includes registrars, medical officers, medical students, psychology interns, occupational therapy students and others. Participate in the academic programmes at Sterkfontein Hospital including those scheduled by Wits University. Train and teach hospital staff when requested. Administrative and managerial: Partake in clinical audits. Provide input to management where appropriate. Perform clinical and forensic related administration task. Membership of and participation in relevant committees. Research: Actively participate and promote the research programme. Supervision and examination of MMeds.

    Clinical Manager (Medical) Grade 1 (Sterkfontein Hospital)

    Requirements :

    Senior Registrar: Infectious Diseases (Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital)

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a specialist in internal medicine [FCP(SA) or Equivalent].     • Clinical Duties: General Medicine: As a consultant, the candidate will be responsible for the clinical management of general medical patients within any of the General Medicine Units at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital. The incumbent will be required to lead operational and academic ward rounds including post-intake, follow-up and teaching rounds. As a doctor in the unit, the incumbent will be required to supervise registrars, medical officers, intern doctors and students in patient care and the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Other clinical duties will include managing patients at MOPD, managing patients attending the Subspecialty OPD or Speciality Ward Consultations within a relevant Sub-speciality. The desired candidate will be required to set an appropriate example of an exemplary medical practitioner and serve as a role model and clinical mentor to junior doctors and associated clinical staff. Subspeciality: Contributing towards sub specialist services at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital for both inpatient and outpatient services. Play a senior role in the management of infectious diseases inpatients and outpatients at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital. Contributing to the research output for the division. Academic: Participation in the academic duties of the Wits Internal Medicine and related Departments/ Subspecialities. Performance of research within the department. Supervision of research within the department and MMed students. Teaching: Training and supervision of Registrars, Medical Officers, Medical Interns and Medical students including tutorials, teaching ward rounds and skills development. The desired candidate will also be required to provide medical support and guidance to nursing staff.

    Medical Specilaist- Emergency Medicine (Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital)

    Requirements :

    • Medical Qualification: MBBCh (or equivalent), FCEM (SA) or equivalent, MMED Emergency medicine (Or equivalent).
