Junior BI Developer (12 Months Contract) at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited

Role Purpose    

• The Junior BI Developer supports the Finance Automation, Data and BI Team in delivering reliable reporting, dashboards, analysis and data-driven process improvements.
• Working under guidance from experienced BI team members, the role assists with gathering requirements, preparing and validating data, maintaining existing BI solutions, and translating business questions into practical insights. The role provides a development pathway into end-to-end BI delivery, including data extraction and transformation, data modelling, reporting, testing, documentation, and user support.
• The role also provides SQL and reporting support for daily ad-hoc, and recurring requests received through approved team channels, including the team inbox. This includes producing accurate data extracts and flat-file reports from multiple data sources, validating outputs for completeness and accuracy, and ensuring that reporting outputs are fit for purpose before being shared with stakeholders.

Requirements    

• Grade 12 / Matric. 
• A relevant BCom, BSc, diploma or degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Investment Management, Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field.

Core experience and knowledge 

• One to two years of relevant experience in data, reporting, analytics, BI or process automation. 
• Working knowledge of Excel, data analysis, interpretation and visualisation. 
• Foundational SQL skills, including the ability to write and interpret data queries. 
• Exposure to Power BI dashboard development, Power Query and basic DAX. 
• Understanding of data quality, reconciliation, testing and reporting controls. 
• Ability to analyse information, identify issues and communicate findings clearly. 
• Interest in finance, regulatory or management reporting and supporting business processes. 
• Experience producing flat-file reports, data extracts or Excel-based outputs for business stakeholders. 
• Advantageous exposure 
• SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS tabular models, data warehousing or dimensional modelling. 
• Python, VBA, Power Automate, Power Apps, UiPath or similar automation tools. 
• Modern data platforms such as AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure or Microsoft Fabric. 
• Agile delivery practices and relevant Microsoft, data or analytics certifications. 
• Practical use of approved AI tools to improve productivity, analysis, documentation or solution delivery. 

Duties & Responsibilities    

Business requirements and analysis 

• Work with stakeholders and senior BI team members to understand business questions, reporting needs and expected outcomes. 
• Assist in documenting business requirements, data definitions, report specifications and acceptance criteria. 
• Translate clearly defined requirements into practical reporting, dashboard or data-analysis tasks with guidance. 
• Work directly with business stakeholders, where appropriate, to clarify report requirements, expected formats, timelines and business rules. 
• Manage assigned reporting requests within agreed priorities, service expectations and delivery timelines. 

BI development and reporting 

• Build, maintain and enhance reports, dashboards and recurring management information using approved BI tools and standards. 
• Generate reports and presentations using existing scripts, models, datasets and templates. 
• Assist with data extraction, transformation and loading across approved data sources. 
• Write and maintain SQL queries for extraction, validation and analysis under appropriate review. 
• Contribute to Power BI and SSRS solutions, including data preparation, visualisation, filtering and basic calculations. 
• Perform ad-hoc analysis and communicate clear, evidence-based insights. 
• Prepare clear, usable outputs for business stakeholders, including Excel-based summaries, reconciliations and data files. 

Operational support and automation 

• Provide day-to-day support for existing reports, dashboards, data imports and automated processes. 
• Assist with recurring and ad-hoc data requests through approved channels. 
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, standardise reporting and automate repeatable processes. 
• Help improve the performance, maintainability and usability of existing reports, queries, models and processes. 
• Support daily request queues, recurring reporting cycles and time-sensitive data requests through agreed team processes. 
• Documentation, training and collaboration 
• Maintain clear documentation for requirements, data sources, business rules, report logic, testing and support procedures. 
• Provide basic guidance and support to end users on reports, dashboards and BI tools. 
• Collaborate with various teams to deliver consistent solutions. 
• Communicate progress, risks, dependencies and delivery dates clearly. 
• Participate in Agile delivery, team reviews, knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
