    Junior Metallurgist

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Conduct routine metallurgical analyses on various samples in accordance with operational requirements.
    • Support the day-to-day operation of the Physical Metallurgical Laboratory.
    • Monitor laboratory consumables, maintain stock levels, and obtain supplier quotations when required.
    • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly physical stock counts of precious metals and other valuable materials.
    • Plan, conduct, and report on metallurgical test work and technical investigations.
    • Monitor and report on project progress in a timely manner.
    • Research and evaluate new technologies to improve laboratory performance and manufacturing processes.
    • Produce technical reports, scopes of work, standard operating procedures, and laboratory manuals.
    • Maintain document management processes and records within the laboratory.
    • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and laboratory quality requirements.
    • Monitor equipment performance and ensure equipment operates according to specification.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Matric and/or National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering with a focus on physical metallurgy.
    • Minimum 2 years’ relevant metallurgical laboratory or related industry experience.
    • Experience conducting metallurgical analyses, investigations, and test work.
    • Exposure to laboratory quality systems and technical reporting.
    • Knowledge of metallurgical laboratory operations and manufacturing processes will be advantageous. 

    SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: 

    • Intermediate proficiency—Microsoft suite (Excel, Email, Word) and SAP.
    • Analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Planning and organising skills.
    • Sound decision-making skills and attention to detail.
    • Innovative mindset with a continuous improvement focus.
    • Strong communication skills with the abillity to engage stakeholders at all levels.
    • Strong customer serviice orientation and commitment to quality and safety
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet dealines. 

    KNOWLEDGE:

    • Working knowledge of physical metallurgy principles, metallurgical testing methodologies, and laboratory operations.
    • Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control principles within a laboratory environment.
    • Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 standards and quality management systems.
    • Understanding of precious metals testing, analysis techniques, and related laboratory equipment.
    • Knowledge of SHEQ requirements, safety procedures, and risk management practices within a laboratory environment.
