    Laboratory Manager: Histology

    Laboratory Manager: Histology
    (Ref. TGB02/167/0720)

    • The Laboratory Manager (LM) needs in-depth knowledge of the Clinical Anatomy environment to master his/her duties, and to be able to lead and manage other laboratory personnel. 
    • The LM must facilitate a working environment in the laboratory that promotes effective and productive completion of tasks, while also enabling the necessary flexibility in laboratory activities to accommodate the changing needs of the group. 
    • The LM must bring together the knowledge of lab procedures, health and safety practices, the overall aims of the CA and study-specific deliverables.

    Duties         

    • Managing daily functioning of the Histology laboratory;
    • Ensuring that all procedures in the laboratory are validated before implementation;
    • Ensuring that external quality assurance assessments take place as per schedule, and to submit and review results;
    • Managing training and competency assessments for all laboratory personnel and students;
    • Complying with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice, and ensuring that CA Quality System Essentials are implemented in all laboratory activities to ensure that accreditation status is maintained;
    • Liaising with research units of CA to plan and implement new protocols in the laboratory;
    • Planning and implementing new projects to facilitate third stream income and managing on-going projects.

    Job Requirements    

    • A degree in Histology, Medical Sciences, Anatomy or a related field;
    • A minimum of three years experience in laboratory management.

    Recommendation        

    • Excellent knowledge of methods, materials, techniques and equipment used in a Histology or an Immunohistochemistry research laboratory.
