    Lead: Creative Copywriter

    About the role

    • As the Creative Lead (Copy) Capitec, you will play a key role in shaping and elevating the brand’s voice through innovative, compelling copy across all platforms. You will be responsible for setting the creative tone, driving messaging strategy, and ensuring all content aligns with Capitec’s brand identity, tone, and purpose.
    • In this senior creative role, you’ll provide thought leadership in copywriting, partnering closely with designers and cross-functional teams to deliver impactful content that enhances the overall brand experience. You’ll also support the Manager: Copywriting by helping to refine messaging strategies, evolve brand systems, and mentor a team of copywriters to deliver consistent, high-quality work.

    Key Performance areas:
    Creative leadership and conceptual copy direction

    • Develop innovative, high-level copy concepts that align with Capitec’s brand strategy and creative direction
    • Lead ideation sessions, guiding creative discussions that shape campaign messaging
    • Partner with design, marketing, and creative leads to deliver integrated solutions that resonate across platforms
    • Drive a culture of curiosity, creative excellence, and continuous improvement within the copywriting team

    Brand messaging strategy and alignment

    • Own the creation of strategic messaging frameworks that ensure consistency across all channels
    • Translate complex ideas into simple, clear, engaging copy aligned to Capitec’s brand voice
    • Ensure all written content – whether digital, print, social, or in-app – enhances the brand’s positioning and resonates with target audiences

    Research, strategic thinking, and data-driven creativity

    • Conduct audience research and competitor analysis to inform messaging direction
    • Use data and insights to refine copy strategies and enhance engagement
    • Apply design thinking principles and user testing feedback to continuously improve copy effectiveness
    • Stay informed of market trends, consumer sentiment, and emerging technologies to ensure messaging relevance

    Mentorship and creative collaboration

    • Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to copywriters, elevating creative outputs
    • Collaborate closely with the Creative Lead: Design and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between copy and design
    • Foster a collaborative environment where innovation, empathy, and user-centred solutions thrive

    Project management and stakeholder engagement

    • Manage multiple copy projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality delivery within deadlines
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders to interpret briefs, align on creative direction, and present copy solutions that meet business objectives
    • Maintain clear, transparent communication throughout the creative process

    Innovation and continuous improvement

    • Continuously explore new tools, methodologies, and storytelling techniques to enhance creative outcomes

    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and raise the bar in copy quality
    • Encourage fresh perspectives and creative problem-solving within the team

    Experience and Knowledge

    • 8+ years of copywriting experience, with strong expertise in conceptual creative work
    • Proven ability to develop and deliver multi-channel campaigns (digital, ATL, BTL, social)
    • Experience driving creative direction for complex, high-visibility projects
    • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of conceptual strategic and brand-aligned copy solutions
    • Experience conducting user research and leveraging data to inform messaging strategies
    • Previous experience in an agency environment or in-house creative studio

    Qualifications (Minimum)

    • Bachelor’s Degree in, Communications, Copywriting, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related field.

    Qualifications (Advantageous)

    • Postgraduate Qualification (advantageous) in Communications, Copywriting, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related field.

    • Ability to lead creative ideation and bring innovative concepts to life
    • Strong research and data analysis skills to inform copy decisions
