Lecturer (2060) at University of Western Cape

The successful candidate at the level of LECTURER will be expected to:

• Leverage their research to enhance the profiles of the CMDR and Linguistics Department.
• Supervise postgraduate Honours and Master’s students in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, and Sociolinguistics.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of a cross-faculty seminar series on multilingualism and diversities and linguistics in the CMDR and Linguistics Department.
• Assist with the coordination of workshops, seminars and conferences in the CMDR and Linguistics Department.
• Teach courses at undergraduate level in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics/Sociolinguistics in the Linguistics Department and the CMDR Postgraduate Diploma in Language Practice.
• Contribute to the CMDR’s and Linguistics Department’s community outreach activities consistent with the University’s Institutional Operating Plan.
• Serve on centre, departmental and faculty committees as may be required.

Minimum Requirements

• A Master’s Degree in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics/Sociolinguistics with a specialisation in, among others, family language policy/family multilingualism.
• Experience in teaching Linguistics/Applied Linguistics/Multilingualism modules at undergraduate level.
• Experience in both face-to-face and online teaching as well as how to design teaching and learning material to cater for both modes at university level.
• At least 1 peer-reviewed publication in the area of multilingualism in society or language policy, commensurate with the position of Lecturer in a research-led institution.
• Knowledge and proficiency in or ability to work with African languages (this includes Kaaps also known as Afrikaaps).

Recommendations

• Evidence of advanced progress in completing a PhD degree with specialization in Multilingualism in Society and Language Policy.
• Conduct research in multilingualism or family language policy with an interdisciplinary perspective.
