Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (in the field of Human Physiology) at University of the Free State

Duties and responsibilities

• Present lectures, tutorials, small-group discussions and practical training sessions in Human Physiology for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
• Present lectures, seminars and tutorials in Human Physiology for postgraduate students in medicine and the health professions.
• Facilitate small-group discussions and practical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
• Involvement in curriculum development and module management in modules presented to undergraduate and postgraduate students in health professions.
• Participate in the departmental research programme and postgraduate supervision.

Inherent  Job Requirements:

Lecturer:

• A PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in the field of Human Physiology (for a permanent appointment).

OR

• A Master's degree on NQF Level 9 in the field of Human Physiology (contract appointment: 5 years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 in the field of Human Physiology must be obtained to be converted into a permanent position).
• Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
• Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
• A good academic record (attach a copy).

Senior Lecturer:

• A PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in the field of Human Physiology.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters' students.
• Proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
• Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
• Proven academic work experience in the higher education sector.

Recommendations:

• Knowledge of the field of Biochemistry or Clinical Biochemistry.
• Proven record of teaching Physiology related modules at an undergraduate and/or post graduate level.
• Proven experience in laboratory management.
• A valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of an additional South African language.
