    Chief Officer: Counselling/ Clinical Psychologist (Post Level 8)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Provide Psychotherapy and counselling with regards to personal, social, emotional and career development.
    • Identify, diagnose, and treat serious psychological problems and refer to other professionals when the need arises.
    • Liaise with Student Counselling and Development, Centre for Health and Wellness, management, student affairs, faculties, academic departments, support services and student representatives.
    • Conduct Psychometric assessments & provide Career Counselling.
    • Perform psychological screening and first level interventions aimed at enhancing student functioning.
    • Design and present developmental workshops for students.
    • Marketing of the services and rendering presentations to internal stakeholders.
    • Office management and administration.
    • Participate in the Division of Student Affairs strategic goals and objectives.

    Inherent requirements:

    • A master’s degree on NQF Level 9 in counselling/clinical psychology.
    • Active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the category Counselling/Clinical Psychology (attach proof).
    • Minimum one (1) year experience in working with students in Higher Education, or in working with young adults 
    • (18 – 40 years of age), and proven involvement in student / young adults’ life activities or initiatives.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Communication Science or Cognate /Related Discipline)

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity for the Communication Science Department.
    • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Communication Science.
    • Provide study guidance and supervision to final year and postgraduate students.
    • Initiate and conduct high-level research and sustain quality research outputs.
    • Active participation and involvement in applicable UFS management structures.

    • Master’s degree in Communication Science or cognate/ related discipline on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD in Communication Science or cognate/related discipline on NQF Level 10  MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position). 
    • A minimum of three (3) years lecturing experience in Communication Science at a tertiary institution.
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
    • Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.

    Senior Lecturer

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate geology modules, mainly sedimentary geology (sedimentology and stratigraphy), and any other modules as required.
    • Provide study leadership at postgraduate level mainly in sedimentary geology (sedimentology and stratigraphy), sedimentary mineral systems with a focus on the sedimentary geology of southern Africa and mineral deposits therein.
    • Organise and lead field trips mainly for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Recruit and supervise master's and PhD students.
    • Initiate research projects· and apply for research funding from academic and industrial grant providers and forge linkage with the industry. Focus research interests should be related to sedimentary geology and mineral systems therein.
    • Publish research in accredited journals.
    • Perform general administration duties as applicable at university level.
    • Participate in community projects and engagements.
    • Perform administrative duties related to his/her academic leadership, mentorship to junior staff, etc.

    • Served as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR showed evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

    Professor

    • A PhD on NQF Level 10 in sedimentary geology, geology, or related geological disciplines.
    • Experience as external examiner for master and doctoral students.
    • Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research in sedimentary geology and sedimentary mineral systems, among others.
    • A NRF rating of C1 or C2 or equivalent status.
    • Demonstrated successful supervision of graduated master's and preferably graduated doctoral students. 
    • Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences.
    • Serve as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Recommendations

    • Experience and knowledge in the geology, geochemistry and mineral systems of the Southern African sedimentary basins is added advantage.
    • Application of GIS and earth systems in geological sciences mainly in Sedimentary geology.
    • Teaching experience at tertiary institution level as well in the development of course and materials and academic development initiatives.
    • Supervision experience.
    • Recognition as reviewer or as editorial board member of national and /or international journals.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (in the field of Human Physiology)

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Present lectures, tutorials, small-group discussions and practical training sessions in Human Physiology for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
    • Present lectures, seminars and tutorials in Human Physiology for postgraduate students in medicine and the health professions.

    Officer: (Post Level 10/11)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Operate and maintain different analytical equipment in the Chemistry department, which includes ICP-OES/MS, TGA, DSC, porosity analyzer, and XRD powder diffractometer.
    • Analyse chemical and material samples for the researchers, post-graduate students, post­ doctoral fellows, graduate students, researchers of other departments on campus, and industrial and commercial collaborators
    • Train post-graduate students on equipment operations
    • Provide Safety support as a member of the Safety Committee
    • Maintain ICP-OES/MS, TGA, DSC, porosity analyzer, and XRD powder diffractometer to ensure their proper functioning.
    • Responsible for regular stock taking of essential chemicals and monitor equipment.

    • Request an appraisal of quotations for new equipment, services, maintenance, and other running expenses.
    • Schedule timely reports and follow up on job requests

    Inherent requirements:

    • A B.Sc. Honours degree on NQF level 8 with specialization in Analytical Chemistry or related Chemistry.
    • A minimum of two years' experience in the operation and maintenance of ICP-OES/MS and/or TGA and/or DSC and/or porosity analyser and/or XRD powder diffractometer

    Recommendations:

    • A Master's degree on NQF level 9 with a specialization in Analytical Chemistry or related Chemistry
    • Equipment management and one year of commercial/academic laboratory experience.
    • Experience in Laboratory and Safety Training.
