We are seeking a driven and committed Legal Professional specialising in Labour Law to join our Cape Town office. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional labour law advice to policy holders, representing them through informal mediation and negotiations, drafting legal correspondence, and conducting consultations with the aim of resolving matters amicably.
This role operates within a legal insurance environment, not a traditional law firm. Employees do not attend court. Instead, the role functions within a call centre-based legal services environment, where communication with policyholders and attorneys takes place primarily via telephonic and email correspondence.
Minimum Requirements:
LLB Degree with specialisation in Labour Law (admission as an Attorney or Advocate is advantageous)
Ability to speak, read, and write at least two official South African languages, one of which must be Afrikaans or Sotho
Minimum of 2 years’ post-articles Labour Law experience in a legal environment
Demonstrated expertise and strong working knowledge of Labour Legislation and Practice
Strong ethical standards with proven honesty and integrity
Fully computer literate with excellent communication and administrative skills
Strong drafting and legal research skills
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Innovative, proactive, and solution-driven approach
Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
High level of legal knowledge
Positive, motivated, and professional mindset
Key Responsibilities:
Obtain comprehensive instructions from policy holders via consultations (telephonic, written, or in person)
Provide immediate basic legal and product advice where required
Attend to Labour Law–related matters
Explain company processes and exclusion procedures to policy holders
Draft warning letters, referrals, correspondence, settlement agreements, wills, and representations
Conduct mediations to assist in resolving legal matters
Provide regular progress feedback to policy holders (minimum twice monthly or as required)
Maintain accurate, detailed file notes and proper case administration
Apply Labour Law principles to facts and provide legal opinions (written and telephonic)
Conduct ongoing legal research to stay current with labour legislation and case law
Assess merits of cases for legal advice and litigation cover
Ensure compliance with internal legal, claims, and policy requirements
Liaise effectively with administrative and support staff
Verify policy payment history monthly
Follow rejection and exclusion procedures accurately
Ensure timely completion of all tasks within set deadlines
