Linux Senior System Administrator at Stellenbosch University

Duties        

• Installing, daily maintenance of and monitoring computer systems and servers at Stellenbosch University. (This position may from time to time require after hours system maintenance).

Job Requirements        

• National Senior Certificate, with eight years' relevant experience, OR a relevant IT degree/diploma with three years' relevant experience, OR a relevant IT certificate with six years' relevant experience.
• Already a system administrator working with server software daily.
• Sound knowledge of Linux as operating system.
• Sound knowledge of system architecture design and capabilities.
• Sound knowledge of system security.
• The ability to solve problems innovatively.
• Proven analytical skills.
• A high level of accuracy.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills in Afrikaans or English.
• The ability to work both in a team as well as independently.
• Outstanding interpersonal relations.
• The ability to take the lead in the field of expertise.
• The ability to transfer knowledge to peers.  

Recommendation    

• Any other IT-related industry qualifications.
• ITIL v4 certification.
• Experience with cloud-based capabilities.
• Experience with VMware virtualisation technologies.
• Experience with using automation/configuration management technologies such as Ansible, Puppet, or equivalent.
• Experience with creating and debugging Linux scripts.
