    Locum Medical Officer

    Job Description

    Guaranteed Weekend Shifts | Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Team 

    • Faircape Health Institute is expanding our pool of Locum Medical Officers to support our growing Sub-Acute Care & Rehabilitation Centre at Heritage Manor, Somerset West.
    • This opportunity is ideal for doctors looking to supplement their current practice with consistent weekend work in a structured, ward-based environment while becoming part of an experienced multidisciplinary healthcare team.
    • Heritage Manor provides sub-acute, rehabilitation, long-term, dementia, respite and palliative care within a modern healthcare environment focused on restoring function, promoting independence and improving patient outcomes.
    • Working alongside experienced nursing staff, therapists and healthcare professionals, you will manage medically stable rehabilitation and long-term care patients, helping bridge the gap between hospital and home.

    Working Hours

    Weekends

    • 08h00 until patient rounds are completed (typically around 12h00–13h00).

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments on admission, including physical examinations, medical history reviews and interpretation of diagnostic results.
    • Manage medically stable rehabilitation, long-term care, frail care and palliative patients.
    • Develop, implement and review individualised treatment plans, including medication management and rehabilitation interventions.
    • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans to optimise recovery and clinical outcomes.
    • Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing staff.
    • Maintain accurate electronic medical records on Healthware, including progress notes and discharge summaries.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding treatment plans and ongoing care.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical best practice.
    • Establish and maintain professional relationships with referring specialists within the Somerset West catchment area.
    • Doctors provide urgent telephonic clinical support to the nursing team should an emergency arise. Our experienced nursing staff manage the majority of clinical matters independently

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).

    Experience & Knowledge

    • Minimum proven post-community service experience.
    • Experience in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics or Palliative Care would be advantageous.
    • Experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment is beneficial.
    • Comfortable managing patients with multiple co-morbidities, chronic disease burden and rehabilitation-related conditions.

    Specific Requirements

    • Active HPCSA registration.
    • Medical Protection Society (MPS) or equivalent medical indemnity cover.
    • Clear health, criminal and credit record.
    • Written references.

    Remuneration

    Weekdays (when required)

    • R575 per hour

    Saturday

    • Daily rate: R1,264
    • Plus: R190 per patient

    Sunday

    • Daily rate: R1,900
    • Plus: R190 per patient
