Logistics Manager

Scoop Distribution (Pty) Ltd requires a Logistics Manager for our Cape Town Branch. This position is ideal for an experienced Freight and Imports/Exports Officer. You will be required to manage all logistics, imports, exports and freight for all 3 of our branches across South Africa. It requires exceptional negotiation and communication skills. A confident, strong-willed individual will be most suited to this role.

Tasks

Imports

• Oversee and facilitate all imports in conjunction with forwarders
• Regular rate reviews for various forwarders
• Request estimation and sailing time from all forwarders for each shipment via either air or sea freight
• Request quotes from all forwards for each shipment via either air or sea freight
• Secure the most competitive pricing and the most efficient delivery times by requesting estimation and sailing schedules with different shipping lines
• Regular price comparisons for various forwarders
• Ensure bookings are adhered to and stock available from suppliers is loaded/collected on time as per the ready dates
• Track each shipment closely and query any delays or transshipping to ensure we are receiving the best service and our shipments are not unnecessarily delayed
• In the event of any delays, follow up with forwarders and suppliers to confirm new shipping dates
• Escalate problems where necessary to the relevant manager
• Consolidation of shipments from main ports
• Pre-clearing and approving of customs documents and tariffs before arrival of consignment
• Facilitate customs stops or queries
• On receipt of invoicing, ensure all pricing is correct as per agreed estimate with the forwarder
• Co-ordinate closely with forwarders to facilitate delivery at the selected branch

International Exports

• RMA: Arrange faulty items to be returned to international suppliers 
• Completion and accuracy of all export documentation
• Ensuring products arrive at suppliers 

Exports to SADAC Countries

• Completion off all export documentation
• Ensure invoices are issued correctly (with or without VAT)
• Follow up with couriers to ensure all export documentation is received
• Price comparisons for various couriers

Local Freight

• Oversee all local freight between branches
• Regular price comparisons to ensure we are using the safest and most cost-effective methods
• Review companies used for local freight on our website, compare pricing and explore all options
• Actively participate in sourcing new/potential transporters
• Planning and Scheduling inter-branch shipment by providing a cost-effective solution
• End of month reconciliation for each forwarder
• Actively identify any changes with the forwarder (ie. price increases or new geographical surcharge areas ) - Resolve concerns on missing goods and insurance queries
• Ensure credits are passed for missing or overcharged deliveries
• Updating and liaising with branch managers if there are any queries
• Actively identify increased shipping rates and query with forwarder

Requirements

• 5 years experience in a similar role
