    Maintenance Assistant

    Description

    • Plennegy (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1955 and is both a trading and holding company with its core business being related to agriculture and property investments. Together with its associated companies, the group develops, produces and distributes seed, as well as supplies farming equipment, fuel and vehicles to the agricultural and retail industries. We are looking to appoint a Maintenance Assistant in our Aviation Department.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     MAINTENANCE

    • Assist with general maintenance under the supervision of AME.
    • Assist with the removal of cowlings and panels.
    • Move relevant maintenance equipment into place, e.g., jacks, drip trays, etc.
    • Discard used engine oil and clean drip trays.
    • Assist with cleaning of aircraft engines, landing gear and exposed areas subsequent to panel removal.
    • Paint stripping and sanding areas which require repainting, e.g., propellers, wings, cowlings, and landing gear.
    • Assist with general lubrication of aircraft.
    • Assist engineers with the passing and fetching of necessary tools and spares from stores.
    • Checking of tyre pressures, as well as the replenishing of engine oil as required by the engine

    HOUSEKEEPING

    • Ensure that kettles and urns are filled with water daily.
    • Ensure that an ice supply is always available.
    • Ensure that the fridge is stocked for catering on aircraft on a regular basis.
    • Empty out all dustbins in and workshop.

    Cleaning of workshops, stores, and hangars:

    •           Dust all equipment, walls, and aircon as required.
    •           Sweep, clean, mop, and ensure that all spills are cleaned off all floors, including the hangar floor, as and when required.
    •           Ensure that all equipment and tools used by Engineers are cleaned and packed away correctly.
    •           Thoroughly clean and pack toolboxes monthly.

    Aprons and Grounds:

    •           Check and remove all foreign objects from the apron viz stones, paper, plastic, and debris.
    •           Check that Big Tractor is serviceable for cutting grass on Airfield.
    •           Assist with when required to cut grass on Airfield.
    •           Assist with and Check runway lights and replace lamps, as required on the airfield.
    •           Assist with checking and Maintaining NDB beacon and Papie Lights.

    Cleaning of aircraft:

    •           Clean inside and outside of aircraft when required, e.g., insects on windows, etc.
    •           Vacuum carpets.
    •           Clean windows, oleos, leading edges, cowling, etc. daily.
    •           Check general cleanliness and clean, e.g., coffee stains on seats, and Cockpit.

     

    FUEL INSTALLATION

    Daily checks:

    •           Check and record all fuel levels for stock purposes.
    •           Sample tanks for water.
    •           Draw fuel with a mechanical pump.
    •           Perform Vortex and syringe checks.
    •           Sampling of fuel filters as per the above to ensure that they are free of sediment and water.
    •           Check line strainers on Jet A1 and Avgas for sediment.
    •           Check for any fuel leaks on installation and advise Engineers accordingly.

    Weekly checks:

    •            Check the condition of JetA1 and Avgas hose reels for twisting, abrasions, nicks, etc.
    •            Inspect the condition of couplings of Jet A1 and Avgas.
    •            Check bonding reels of Jet A1 and Avgas installations for resistance and continuity.

     Monthly checks:

    •            Perform complete checks for daily and weekly checks to ensure that everything is in order and report any defects to Engineers.
    •            Record all observations for daily, weekly, and monthly checks as per the BP manual and certify.

    GENERAL

    • Ensure hangar doors and the three containers are secured and locked prior to leaving the premises after work.
    • Ensure that senior staff vehicles are cleaned on a weekly basis.
    • Assist with moving/storing Plennegy/visitor’s aircraft as and when required.
    • Assist with cleaning Hanger tenants’ aircraft inside and outside as and when required.
    • Any other tasks as deemed necessary by Engineer and/or Chief Pilot.
       

    Requirements
    REQUIREMENTS:

    Education

    Min:

    • Matric (Math's),

    Computer Literate
    Ideal:

    • Matric (Math's),
    • Computer Literate & Technical Training

    Legal Requirements

    Min:

    • Code 8 Drivers License

    Ideal:

    • Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic Trade Course/Certificate

    Training

    Min:

    • Inhouse training to perform all refueling and maintenance assistance procedures – aircraft specific.
    • First Aid Level 1 Certificate – 2 yearly.
    • BP Fuel training 2 yearly.
    • Fire Fighting Course – 2 yearly. OHS Training – 2 yearly.
       

    Experience

    Min:

    • 1 Year in the maintenance/engineering field

    Ideal:

    • 3 Years aircraft maintenance/apprentice
