Plan, manage, support, and promote the undertaking of strategic research and innovation programmes aimed at supporting formulation of appropriate strategies, projects, and policies within the maritime sector
Manage the implementation of technology and innovation studies to promote research as a significant contributor to the development and growth of the maritime industry
Through research, promote the culture of innovation and transformation for purposes of fostering beneficiation and culture of entrepreneurship
Drive technology and innovation research activities and projects Prudently manage resources (e.g. finance, data etc.) allocated for purposes of research projects
Develop and manage performance compliance requirements (e.g. annual business plan, regular reports, and ad-hoc requests)
Providing reliable Departmental financial projections for budgeting and management purposes Identification of departmental risks, development, and implementation of the mitigation plan to manage departmental risks
Undertake ad-hoc work as required and directed by Line Management
Engage and promote internal and external stakeholder relations on maritime research
Participate in research collaboration programmes on bilateral and multi-disciplinary partnerships with industry, academia and other relevant institutions impacting the Maritime Sector
Interact with different levels of stakeholders for the purpose of developing the industry
Build and manage relationships with leading research institutes and other key players locally and abroad to jointly participate strategic initiatives
Partner with local and international research institutions, high education institutions and maritime sector in creating a system to share maritime data
Actively represent SAMSA in maritime research and innovation engagement platforms both external and internal
In collaboration with industry partners, identify, assess, and implement new business innovative maritime opportunities that work towards promoting maritime research
Provide input or direction in the ideation and origination of maritime research projects Communicate, share and present research findings to the relevant stakeholders
Design and implement programmes and projects
Evaluate and review programmes and projects and take pro-active remedial action to achieve quality output
Effectively apply newly acquired skills for improved performance
Manage data in line with ethical and information protection guidelines
Effective management of own performance in line with the Performance Management Guidelines and Cycle
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Studies/Research Studies (NQF 7)
Project Management Qualification or Certification would be an added advantage
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
7 years’ related experience in a Maritime Environment
Experience in managing projects and conducting research
Experience in collaborating and engaging with strategic stakeholders
