    Manager Metallurgy

    The Appointee should:

    • B.Sc. (Chemistry), B.Eng, B-Tech Engineering or NQF 8 (Post graduate Diploma / Honours Degree / Professional Qualification Degree) in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or relevant field
    • At least 7 years’ experience in a related role, of which 3 years should have been at a management level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
    • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
    • Clear security screening record.
    • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Technical Growth Review and implement strategies to overcome problems highlighted by the analysis trends produced from data. Manage benchmarking activities of relevant processes. Provide technical input into new plant designs.
    • Research, Development & Best Practices Conduct PMR engagement on new metallurgical technologies including zero harm improvements. Run concept and pilot projects in collaboration with research institutions. Analyse project data and introduction of new technology. Oversee research activities and link them to the optimisation strategy. Source and investigate global metallurgical best practices.
    • Performance Optimisation Projects Identify deltas or defects in metallurgical processes and recommend solutions. Initiate continuous improvement projects and establish implementation plan. Manage and track project progress to completion. Validate benefits Execute project feasibility, bankable and scoping studies. Ratify metallurgical designs for new PMR projects. Ensure alignment of project strategies with the organisation’s long-term vision. Monitor project execution and provide coaching and support. Oversee the analysis of the flow of events in processes to identify bottlenecks and causes for obstacles. Review and implement strategies to overcome problems highlighted by the analysis trends produced from data by process engineers to identify significant trends in processes, repetitive failures and availability constraints. Technical input into new plant design and plant modifications.
    • Project Management Lead the establishment of the technical needs of the unit and scope and assign projects to meet these requirements. Conduct coordination and information sharing sessions with technical and operations team members related to project execution. Manage and resolve unforeseen delays and problems in all projects. Review and approve close out report on project completion indicating achieved improvement.
    • Operations & Service Delivery Ensure adherence to operating standards and KPI requirements. Investigate process deviations and suggest and implement possible solutions to operations. Review current processes, determine solutions and optimise accordingly. Custodian of the technical data and operations standards of the unit. Ensure the delivery of technical training to metallurgical staff. Coordinate MOC to move projects into production.
    • Budgeting Lead the preparation and forecasting of financial and technical budgeting for relevant area. Participate in capital application for optimisation projects.
    • Stakeholder Relations Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally. Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders. Develop and agree on Service Level Agreement’s (SLAs) with stakeholders. Liason with suppliers and customers to ensure service delivery according to SLAs.
    • Building a values-based organisational culture Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment. ESG Compliance Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiative.
    • SHE Compliance Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment. Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks. Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Implement systems and processes to facilitate zero harm, occupational and other regulatory standards Ensure HAZOPS are conducted and implemented for new systems Development of technical training manuals as part of the training material for new systems Ensure all FRP are considered for all new projects implemented Stimulate an environment where SBO are conducted Promote incident reporting and investigation SHE Management: Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department. Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division. Quality Management System (QMS): Approve department’s documents. Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.

    • People Management Recruitment: Design the specific Operations’ discipline structure to support the achievement of the organisational mandate. Review and approve labour plans around operational targets. Performance Management: Provide leadership and inspire team members towards high performance. Manage performance and development of reporting staff. Set the specific Operations’ discipline performance targets and criteria that align with organisational goals for the team. Employee Relations: Drive the Organisational Culture and Climate within the Business Unit to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and employee safety. Training and Development: Drive a culture of Learning and Continuous Improvement within the specific Operation to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and safety. Mentor individuals to enhance the individual`s knowledge, skills, values and attitude. Create opportunities for development through participation and involvement in new business or technology enhancement projects for team members. Provide coaching to team members on an ongoing basis. Transformation & Sustainability: Drive a culture of Transformation within the specific Operation to ensure organisational sustainability.
