    Manager: Process Engineering Projects

    Job Description

    • Our Process Engineering, Automation & Technical Systems (PEATS) team is currently recruiting in Gauteng for a Manager: Process Engineering Projects (IMETA). The role reports to the Director: PEATS (IMETA).
    • The successful candidate will be required in Gauteng as they will travel to various sites across the region.

    Purpose

    This position is responsible for fully managing the development and execution of capital and process engineering projects in support of CHEP IMETA Operations.

    Strategic Accountabilities

    • Lead the 5yr Automation Plan for the SSA and Turkey Region.
    • Assist from a technical perspective in developing strategic recommendations to ensure future production capabilities.
    • Lead development of suppliers to support SSA automation road map
    • Ensure compliance with spending policies and associated financial controls and requirements related to capital expenditures.
    • Ensure compliance with CHEP Safety standards and all applicable environmental standards
    • Report on project performance to CHEP supply chain and PEATS. 

    Project Management Accountabilities

    • Develop Project Scope/Charter document for each Capital project and implement Project Management Life cycle processes. 
    • Identify and request for project team for every project.
    • Report project status in steering committees to PEATS Management
    • Develop financial business cases for each Process engineering capital project using collaboration between Operations, Finance & Process Engineering
    • Develop with the assistance of procurement the request for information, proposal and quote process for equipment supply.
    • Ensure the successful implementation of project closing process on each Process Engineering project with assistance of Project engineers.
    • Lead the implementation of innovations and new developments in technology to comply with CHEP standards and create operational efficiencies.
    • Drive the implementation of pilot technology trials for Global PEATS in IMETA region.
    • Track and report Project progress with all stakeholders as required against project deliverables. 
    • Managing supplier capacity loading
    • Making educated decisions on the design of Plant equipment.
    • Analysing and resolving customer problems.
    • Working in a matrix environment, as each Project has different stakeholders.

    Team Management

    • Direct leader of CHEP project engineers, responsible for their personal development and team performance management process
    • Lead project teams in all capital projects.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Completed BSc/BEng/BTech (Mechanical Engineering OR Mechatronics Engineering OR Electrical Engineering OR Industrial Engineering
    • Project Management Certification (Advantageous)
    • MBA (Advantageous)
    • 5-10 years of project engineering and/or related project management experience.
    • Project Management experience mandatory.
    • Non-Engineering operations experience e.g., production, logistics, or quality a plus.
    • People management experience a plus.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Skilled in the use of project management methods and tools such as MS Project.
    • Knowledge of Project Management principles & processes
    • Knowledgeable in the utilization of material handling and related light industrial equipment.
    • Knowledgeable in basic industrial electrical wiring, process piping and machine guarding principles.
    • Skilled in the use of one or more CAD software packages e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks.)
    • Knowledge of the working principles of industrial robotics.
    • Financial knowledge of Project Cost Management.
    • Strategic planning and implementation.
    • Strategic, out-of-the-box thinker.
    • Cross-functional team worker.
