Marine Portfolio Manager at Bryte Insurance Company Limited

Description

• The role holder will be responsible to lead, direct, manage and provide Marine Insurance expertise to the Marine Insurance brokers in an endeavour to maintain existing business while ensuring that sound underwriting principles are adhered to in collaboration with Regional underwriting manager and Bryte.

Requirements
Key Tasks & Accountabilities

Profit and growth            

• Responsible for rating and controlling the portfolio including technical aspects
• Review portfolios on a regular basis
• Review rating to ensure that it adheres to technical standards
• Review the technical input
• Ensure that the Company is not over committed on individual risks
• Ensure that objectives and targets are set and ensure they are met
• Review monthly targets on a daily basis
• Ensure growth is within acceptable limits and company standards are adhered to
• Ensure that company reinsurance standards are adhered to at all times
• Report to the Regional and National Marine Insurance manager on large variances and large claims
   

Effective management of Marine Insurance Portfolio      

• Ensure feedback from the Brokers to establish the current developments in the respective markets
• Timeously assist with the resolution of the problem
• Review figures of various portfolios
• Ongoing networking, with  brokers, Bryte specialists
• Collaboration  with Bryte commercial business streams
   

Underwriting Support   

• Review the underwriting risks related to the specific company
• Attend meetings with brokers and clients
• Analyse client information to determine underwriting needs
• Provide technical input to brokers regarding complicated claims to ensure timeous resolution
• Ensure policies/renewals are issued timeously and correctly
   

Credit Control   

• Ensure that payments are received in time in terms of legislation and company policies
• Resolve high level problems regarding credit control
   

Effective people management   

• Lead by example in living the values of Bryte
• Ensure that the technical knowledge/expertise is enhanced
• Create an environment that fosters team work and co-operation among team members
• Create awareness of Bryte’s strategic objectives  and their alignment to the department and company objectives
• Feedback from team and  colleagues
• Communicate effectively, building and maintaining relationships
• Ensure consistent compliance to company policies and procedures, corporate governance and relevant legislation

Qualifications & Experience

• Advanced diploma
• 10 Years Marine Insurance Experience.
• Complex marine risk underwriting
• Understanding of sanctioned and legislated territories.
• FAIS compliant
