    Mechanical Artisan

    JOB SUMMARY

    • Clinix Health Group is seeking to appoint a qualified and experienced Mechanical/HVAC Artisan responsible for the operation, maintenance, optimization, and compliance of hospital mechanical and HVAC plant systems.
    • The incumbent will ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of critical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, refrigeration plants, water reticulation systems, pumps, compressors, and associated mechanical equipment.
    • This role requires strong technical expertise, fault-finding capability, and experience working in a regulated healthcare or large commercial environment where system uptime and compliance are essential.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • National Trade Certificate (Mechanical / HVAC) – Compulsory
    • N6 or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / HVAC – Advantageous

    Minimum Experience

    • 3–5 years’ post-trade experience in HVAC and mechanical systems
    • Experience in hospital, healthcare, or large commercial building environments preferred
    • Proven experience with VRF systems, chillers, AHUs, split units, pumps, and plant rooms
    • Strong electrical fault-finding ability related to HVAC controls, motors, and PCB systems

    DELIVERABLES

    • Review conceptual design drawings .
    • Conduct daily inspections of HVAC and ventilation systems.
    • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on chillers, VRF systems, AHUs, FCUs, split units, and associated equipment.
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
    • Ensure environmental compliance in critical areas such as theatres, ICUs, pharmacies, and isolation wards.
    • Maintain refrigeration systems in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
    • Maintain pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and water reticulation systems.
    • Monitor and maintain plant room operational parameters (temperature, pressure, flow rates).
    • Service booster pumps, circulation pumps, and drainage systems.
    • Conduct inspections for vibration, alignment, and mechanical integrity.
    • Support steam, hot water, and pressure systems where applicable.
    • Respond to mechanical breakdowns impacting hospital operations.
    • Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules.
    • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring failures.
    • Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency and reduce operational costs.
    • Ensure compliance with maintenance standards and asset management policies.
    • Maintain accurate records on the CMMS.
    • Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and Machinery Regulations.
    • Adhere to hospital safety and infection control standards.
    • Apply lockout/tagout procedures where required.
    • Assist with internal and external audits.
    • Supervise contractors and ensure quality control of outsourced services.
    • Maintain detailed maintenance documentation and service reports.
    • Escalate critical plant failures and risks timeously.
    • Prepare monthly operational and maintenance performance reports.
    • Engage effectively with internal stakeholders and service providers.
