As the Mechanical Design engineer, you will form part of a multidisciplinary engineering team reporting to the R & D Manager. The incumbent will be a qualified engineer with experience in production design and project management of the R&D projects.
As the design engineer you will work with the engineering team by drawing on their insight to evaluate and contribute your mechanical knowledge to conceptualize new R&D projects. You will also assist by coordinating and administering team members tasks for each project to deliver results timeously through effective project planning.
The role is office bound, with minimum travel for work. Working hours are fixed, with two options available.
Responsibilities
As the Design Engineer your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
Compile functional design specifications for automotive refrigeration equipment in terms of capacity, performance, efficiency, and dimensions.
Management of open and new R&D projects from design, planning (Gantt charts), testing and administration.
Provide technical presentations to appointed boards, management groups & staff.
Evaluate mechanical design inputs from the engineering team members and follow the best design route based on engineering best practice, experience, producibility and cost.
Manage ordering parts and samples, and liaison with suppliers to manufacture according to specification and within time.
Manage, drive, and supervise the building of prototypes based on new engineering designs.
Handover of newly designed products to the production team once design, prototyping and testing is complete.
