Medical Officer Grade 1/2/ 3 (This Post Is Re-Advertisement And People Who Applied Previously Are Encouraged To Re-Apply)
Appropriate qualifications, certificate of registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner and valid current annual registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Work experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.
Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.
Ability and willingness to perform duties outside of normal hours and away from base of employment when required, including overnight and weekend calls, with availability at the relevant Facility / scene within 30 - 45 minutes of the call being logged; A valid driver’s licence
Willingness to perform medico-legal death investigations, including performance of forensic autopsies; Willingness to give evidence in Courts; Computer literacy (MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
Willingness to obtain the CMSA Dip For Med(SA) qualification within 12 to 24 months; Good working knowledge of relevant FPS legislation; Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Duties :
Providing comprehensive medico-legal investigation of death services, inclusive of death scene attendance, after-hour services during the week and over weekends, performance of forensic post mortem examinations including medico-legal autopsies, preparation of relevant medico-legal reports and court attendance; Supporting the implementation of a standardised, quality forensic pathology service
Completing documents for statistical and data analysis purposes; maintenance of records; Participation in learning activities in the Department; Assisting the Head: Clinical Unit in service and management duties; Rendering other related professional services and duties as may be assigned from time to time.
