Medical Officer Grade 1 to 3 (Emergency Medicine) (Mitchells Plain District Hospital)
A valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Participation in commuted overtime is compulsory. Willingness to participate in audits, research and quality improvement projects.
Ability to communicate effectively. Able to work in an integrated multi-disciplinary team under pressure in a high-volume high stress environment. Basic computer literacy, administrative and IT skills. Completion of community service, and appropriate and sufficient experience in the evidence-based emergency management of acutely unwell patients.
Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Practitioner.
Clinical management of all emergency medicine presentations to the emergency centre including neonates, children, and adults. Managing critically ill patients including resuscitation.
Supervision and teaching of students, interns and all levels of healthcare providers in the EC. Effective management of physical, financial and human resource allocation. Efficient administration/documentation regarding clinical matters. Participate in research and innovation w r t systems/publications/conference etc.
Grade 1: None after registration as Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA in respect of SA qualified employees. 1-year relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in respect of SA qualified employees.
A minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in respect of SA qualified employees.
A minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.
Grade 1: R 1 001 349 - R 1 178 116 per annum, Grade 2: R 1 142 553 - R 1 247 202 per annum, Grade 3: R 1 322 352 - R 1 647 630 per annum (It will be expected of the successful candidate to participate in a system of remunerated commuted overtime). A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs.
