Metallurgical Technical Engineer - Mokopane at Anglo American

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline specific interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
• Supports the Senior Manager: Technical in maximising production by always providing technical support through the rigorous application of the technical recipe of the operation ensuring that health and safety is never compromised.
• Provide people leadership within the section by assisting Metallurgists and production staff by measuring, monitoring and managing technical workload, assigning tasks and reviewing/ recognising outputs of team members.
• Utilise experience and operating knowledge of an integrated nature (parallel and sequential processing) of the relevant unit operations in the section’s flowsheets to discern and identify trends and leading indicators of technical problems which may lead to a reduction in operating efficiency or put at risk the integrity of the overall operation.
• Support the sections Business Improvement structure through the initiation and management of dedicated Analyse and Improve initiatives, embedding a culture of learning and continuous improvement for benchmark performance.
• Provide technical recommendations and operational support based on feedback from the measurement and monitoring of technical specifications to ensure benchmark performance.
• Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity, supports engagement, and fosters continuous improvement of work processes. Develop required compliance governance in the context of the discipline on a sectional level, through the implementation and management of assurance systems, feedback management routines and discipline specific trigger action response plans as defined by Technical superiors.
• Ensure compliance to Anglo American internal and external compliance (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements.
• Ensure the well-rounded development of technical processing team and graduates in line with Processing Technical guidelines and best practice principles.
• Develop required compliance governance in the context of the discipline on a sectional level, through the implementation and management of assurance systems, feedback management routines and discipline specific trigger action response plans as defined by Technical superiors.
• Ensure compliance to Anglo American internal and external compliance (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements.
• Redlining of PID’s, HAZOP’s, PSM implementation.
• Assisting the operational team with the PCN/MOC/SCN processes

This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to the Senior Manager Technical Processing.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Metallurgy, Chemical engineering, or related science
• Masters Desirable

Experience

• 5 years relevant experience.

Technical knowledge(experience) required for role:

• Experience in project management advantageous.
• Value chain management within discipline, and awareness of interdependencies across value chain steps.
• Business improvement tools and techniques
• Proven track record working with multi-disciplinary technical and operational teams.

• Proficient skill in solving complex technical investigations and to meet long term business needs.
