    Metallurgist - Postmasburg

    Job Description:

    Enhance plant processes and achieve optimal throughput, final product quality, and value by providing expert technical assistance and support for process control applications.

    • Consistently apply safety and health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for protecting self and others to ensure zero harm and eliminating fatalities.
    • Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
    • Collect and summarise the specific risks within the working area and implement plans/systems to avoid these risks.
    • Review and assess the impact of critical risks and monitor the effectiveness of critical controls relevant to the work area.
    • Identify PUEs and monitor critical control performance within own working area.
    • Ensure customer satisfaction index and product quality conformance by implementing effective measures and procedures.
    • Provide specialist technical support to the operation and projects within the area of functioning, such as Crushing and screening, DMS, JIG QA/QC, Automation, and integration, as required.
    • Act as a subject matter expert and develop and implement a metallurgical blueprint for the area of functioning to ensure efficient and effective processes.
    • Offer technical input and solve complex metallurgical problems for specific processes/systems to troubleshoot and improve the overall process performance.
    • Contribute to knowledge sharing and best practice transfer to improve the process efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Prepare technical reports of the process performance for effective monitoring and control.
    • Provide SME input into production plans to ensure smooth and efficient production processes.
    • Liaise up and down the stream to offer the best support and input to the process performance for effective collaboration and teamwork.
    • Develop an expert-level understanding of installed equipment and processes to identify and implement ideas to improve and develop processes and equipment to ensure cost and process efficiency.
    • Participate in multi-functional teams to share expert knowledge where needed to improve and optimise processes.
    • Investigate identified opportunities to determine the potential for improving or optimising plant processes for better performance and efficiency. - Ensure customer satisfaction index and product quality conformance by implementing effective measures and procedures.
    • Protects Anglo American’s license to operate and reputation by embedding sustainable practices in metallurgy.
    • Proactively manages the impact of any metallurgical processes on the environment and community and drives compliance with licensing and legal requirements.
    • Adopts a holistic view of the geological mining environment.
    • Embeds sustainable practice into all activities.
    • Ensure compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety- and risk management standards and best practices and take remedial action where necessary.
    • Compliance with all audit and other license-to-operate requirements.

    Qualifications:

    • B Eng or BTech in Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering
    • Certifications
    • Prescribed
    • Preferred
    • SA Drivers Licence

    Technical Knowledge

    • Key value drivers within the discipline's value chain and interdependence of key levers.
    • Principles of how operational processes are classified according to the Operating Model, focusing on Work Management.
    • Project management fundamentals.
    • Innovative technologies and their impact on operational activities within the scope of the role.

    • Basic financial metrics & budgeting tools.
