Qualification Requirements

• Grade 12
• Three-year Diploma or Degree in Biotechnology

Experience and Skills Requirements

• Minimum 1 year experience in microbiological analysis
• Knowledge of Laboratory Equipment
• English language proficiency
• Time management
• Computer Literacy, especially MS Office

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure that the correct chemical control measures are followed at all times
• Receiving samples, registration of samples and liaising with Clients
• Preparation of media to be used for tests and perform quality assurance tests on media
• Preparation of quality control tests
• Preparation of samples
• Performing tests as per Standard Operating Procedures: water samples, swab samples and food samples
• Compiling reports for Clients, scanning reports and sending approved results to Clients
• Water Section: Conduct tests using the Standard Operating Procedures in the Water Laboratory, and compile reports needed in the section
• Quality Assurance: Calibrate pipettes, micropipettes and glassware and complete maintenance records where required
• Perform administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability, and budget compliance
• Compile various production reports and ensure distribution according to organizational requirements
• Assist with stock control at the end of the month
• Assist with invoicing of clients
• Oversee that all test work is conducted in the Lab and ensure accurate results to the client and stakeholders
• Ensure adherence to quality requirements, calibrations, certifications and monitoring of laboratory feedback
• Perform tests for different Proficiency Testing Schemes
• Ensure implementation of corrective measures and objectives and targets
• Continuously monitor the Laboratory process to ensure adherence to ISO 17025 and legislative standards/requirements
• Effectively managing time and resources of self/others to ensure that work is completed efficiently within given deadlines
