    Mine Overseer

    The ideal candidate will have:

    Responsibilities

    • Provides visible felt leadership in safety, Goldfields values and sustainable development.
    • Coordinates, supervises and plans production teams to achieve production targets for area of responsibility.
    • Ensures compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and leading practices.
    • Ensures safe, efficient and proper use of all machinery, equipment and infrastructure in area of responsibility.
    • Conducts Adhoc inspections in area of responsibility, conducts good housekeeping and takes corrective action.
    • Oversees and coordinates mining processes safely, efficiently and cost effectively to meet short term production objectives
    • Manages resources to deliver section business targets including safety, quality and volume.
    • Manages, leads, controls and motivates team in area of responsibility.
    • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant stakeholders.
    • Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives for mining processes.
    • Ensures all KPI’s relating to Safety and Health are met by enforcing and complying to the Mines Health & Safety Act
    • Accurate and timeous reporting of all relevant safety and production matters
    • Planning and budgeting for the production section, including labour planning, allocation and manning
    • Taking accountability for proper discipline in the section, as well as developing and managing of subordinates
    • Providing and maintaining a safe environment with minimum risk to the health and safety of employees in the section
    • Taking full control of and responsibility for an underground production drill and blast section i.e. in terms of section 2.14.1 of the Mines Health & Safety Act
    • Assisting management in the execution of critical and SIB projects within the area of responsibility, as may be determined from time to time
    • Managing and controlling the fleet equipment to achieve the desired results
    • Be willing to go the extra mile when required, to ensure that systems are in place to enable the production teams to achieve optimum results

    Qualifications

    • Be in possession of a Matric / Grade 12 Qualification or Equivalent
    • Be in possession of a Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency
    • Have at least 5 years’ experience in deep level mining as well as TM3 experience at Mine Overseer level
    • Have knowledge of relevant legislation in respect of the Mine Health & Safety Act
    • Have very strong interpersonal and management skills on all levels
    • Have excellent achievements in safety, production, cost control and cost saving initiatives
    • Successfully undertake security screening with zero material findings
    • Be in possession of a Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering or a Management Certificate (advantageous) 
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupation Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test.
