    Mineral Resource Geologist

    Mineral Resource Modelling and management thereof. Develop, maintain and reconcile Block Models, assess and supervise the development of resource deposit models and accurately maintain ore reserves and resource estimates. 

    Provide Production Geologist services to operations, addressing both underground and open pit requirements, along with providing leadership within the Geology Department, particularly as it relates to estimation of mineral resources, reserves and optimizing extraction of mineral resources.

    Key Responsibilities 

    Resource Modeling

    • Develop, maintain and reconcile Block Models, assess and supervise the development of resource estimates for deposits
    • Accurately maintain resource models
    • Maintain grade control block models, reconciliations, ore reserve and resource estimates
    • Interact and participate with the Geology and Process Departments in order to ensure sustained development and data reconciliation
    • Supervise and interpret the geotechnical and geological logging of the drilling programmes
    • Audit and perform adequate quality control checks of various, current drill hole and geological databases within the software programs being used.
    • Make recommendations for additional drilling or geological interpretation to ensure ore body resource estimates meet resource/reserve classifications.
    • Direct and assist 3rd party Independent, Qualified Persons in the timely auditing and validation of internal resource estimates.
    • Provide stope reconciliations, dilution estimates, grade forecasting and grade blending.
    • Assist Independent QPs and Consultants in the timely completion of Technical Reports, Scoping Studies, Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Study reports related to any of the company’s resources.
    • Reporting of resources and end of year reconciliations (carry out model depletions)
    • Assist with ongoing underground or other feasibility work

    Production Geology

    • Liaising with the Head of Geology and Mineral Resources Management regarding exploration and development drilling planning and interpretations
    • Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of the resources and encourage teamwork across the departments towards maximizing mineral resource value
    • Participate with Geology, Engineering, Exploration and Operations in short and long-term mine planning.
    • Lead and assist in the planning and execution of definition/delineation resource/reserve conversion drilling programs and analysis of drilling results
    • Conducting Mineral Resource (and possibly Ore Reserve) audits associated with multi-disciplinary studies in Technical Audits or Competent Persons Reports levels.
    • Assist the exploration group in designing the most effective drilling campaigns.
    • Monitor regulatory compliance with respect to mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates.

    Essential Qualifications

    • BSc Honours Degree in Geology
    • English speaking capability, French advantageous
    • Advanced SURPAC, Datamine, Micromine and ARC-GIS software system and/or any other mining software packages
    • 15 years relevant working experience of which at least 5 years must be as an active Data Modeler focused on DRC type mineral resource modelling and management

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Proven and experience in the use of the relevant software packages
    • Ability to compile mineral resource estimates
    • Experience in compiling Competent Persons Report (CPRs) and Feasibility Studies (FS) and sign off of these estimates
    • Experience working in isolated FIFO locations within Africa or developing countries advantageous
    • Previous deployments in DRC advantageous
    • DRC copper belt experience advantageous
