Network Technician (Data Centre Facilities) at City of Tshwane

Job purpose

• To install, configure, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot the organisation’s network infrastructure in order to ensure reliable, secure and efficient connectivity

Appointment requirements

• Grade 12
• The following knowledge will be an added advantage: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT and VPN technologies; experience with enterprise networking equipment from OEMs such as Alcatel, Huawei, Aruba, Juniper, Fortine or MikroTik
• Knowledge of wireless networking standards and Wi-Fi troubleshooting
• At least one to two years’ experience in ICT network administration, network support or technical support
• A valid Code B driving licence and willingness to travel between sites if required
• Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

• Install, configure and maintain network infrastructure to ensure the availability, reliability and performance of the organisation’s network environment
• Monitor, maintain and optimise network infrastructure to ensure continuous, secure and efficient service delivery
• Install, maintain and support structured network cabling infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity across the organisation
• Support the implementation and maintenance of network security controls to protect network infrastructure and information assets
• Provide network support services by resolving incidents and service requests in accordance with approved service standards and operational requirements
• Maintain accurate network documentation and asset information to support effective network administration and governance
