    Job Description

    • Teaching of modules in indigenous knowledge systems
    • Doctoral study / research in indigenous knowledge systems
    • Community engagement in indigenous knowledge systems
    • Participation in development activities as part of the SSAU-Development Programme (SSAU-DP)

    Minimum requirements

    • A Master’s degree specializing in Indigenous knowledge systems is essential
    • Applicants’ academic average of 70 % is essential (Please attach proof of results in your application)
    • Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • 1 year experience teaching in indigenous knowledge systems is essential
    • 1 year experience in research development and management is essential
    • 1 year community engagement experience is essential

    FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):

    • Ability to develop study materials, teach modules in Indigenous Knowledge Systems using indigenous pedagogies
    • Ability to engage with the holders / practitioners and communities in indigenous knowledge systems
    • Knowledge, skills, competencies of indigenous research methodologies, cosmologies, ontologies, philosophies, epistemologies and worldviews
    • Effective communication, computer skills suitable for teaching, community engagement and research dissemination
    • Ability to design, execute and publish research findings in indigenous knowledge systems

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Ability to work in a team, ability to work under pressure
    • Leadership skills, tolerance, innovative, creative, flexible, effective, punctual
    • Ability to work and engage with the indigenous communities, indigenous knowledge holders and practitioners
    • Ability to resolve conflict, build peace, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence
