A vacancy has arisen for an Occupational Therapist at Life Nkanyisa Algoa Psych, Mission Road, Bethelsdorp, Gqeberha. The candidate will be reporting to the Hospital Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting the needs of the internal and external customers through the execution of the Life Healthcare strategic and operational objectives in Growth, Quality, Efficiency and Sustainability by contributing to the effective functioning of the Centre and be part of a dynamic professional team that is continuously striving for the highest quality standards.
Critical Outputs
Develop and maintain the facility programme as a functional member of the inter-disciplinary team.
Participate in patient programme planning, reviews, and adjustments as and when required.
Ensure that there are sufficient consumables and resources available for the facility programme to operate smoothly and without interruption.
Assessment and treatment of patients with physical, functional, and cognitive problems including neurological disorders such as traumatic brain injuries and stroke.
Liaise with external stakeholders and agencies to provide work, learning and recreational opportunities for the service users.
Provide a platform for the implementation of large-scale skills development initiatives.
Participate in the facility specific marketing initiatives, advocacy events and community education programme when required.
Able to supervise assistants/technicians and monitor critical outputs; as well as provide necessary training on the operation of equipment and activities provided by the department.
Ensure that all equipment is serviced, and in working order at all times.
Active participation in continuous professional development activities of the unit.
Attend all required interdisciplinary team meetings.
Function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.
Requirements
Grade 12 Certificate
Degree in Occupational Therapy
Current registration with HPCSA
At least 2 years’ experience post community service.
Experience in treating mental health/psychiatric conditions will be advantageous.
Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, effective communication skills and performance orientation.
Candidate will need to demonstrate commitment to quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
