    OHS Health & Safety & Security Specialist

    Main purpose of the position

    • The purpose of this role is to ensure a safe, secure and healthy working environment by developing, implementing and maintaining occupational health and safety (OHS) programmes, policies and procedures.
    • The incumbent will serve as a key advisor and enforcer of safety standards to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and security breaches.

    Minimum requirements

    Educational Qualification

    • B degree in Environmental Health and/or Occupational Health and Safety Management or relevant qualification on NQF Level 7.
    • An Honours qualification will be an added advantage.
    • Registration as an OHS Practitioner will be an added advantage

    Experience

    • Minimum of 8 years working experience.
    • At least 5-7 years’ experience in OHS management, preferably in a public sector or multi-site environment.

    Driving

    • A valid driver’s licence.

       DUTIES

    • Conduct monthly inspections, regular risk assessments and safety audits across all facilities, and recommend and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Develop, implement and monitor health, OHS and related policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures and safety strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, as well as security protocols including site access controls, perimeter security and surveillance systems.
    • Educate employees on safety procedures, emergency response and hazard recognition, and promote a culture of safety and accountability.
    • Lead investigations into workplace accidents or security breaches, compile reports and implement corrective actions.
    • Stay updated on changes in OHS legislation, address occupational illnesses and advise management on safety improvements and legal obligations.
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents and compliance reports.
    • Assess physical security risks, coordinate with security personnel and identify, implement and monitor suitable security systems.
    • Implement and drive a safety culture internally and externally while upholding integrity and confidentiality in safety matters.
    • Perform any other related duties as assigned.
