The Technical Safety Officer ensures that the organisation conducts its business processes in compliance with laws and regulations, professional standards, international standards, and accepted business practices. The person will perform audits at regular intervals and execute design control systems, advising management on possible risks that might occur and propose changes to internal policies.The major task of the Technical Safety Officer is to uphold the ethical integrity of the organization and also ensure that business activities are conducted using a regulatory framework.Starting your career as a Technical Safety Officer is not at all a relaxed task, instead, it requires detailed expertise and attention to minute details.

Minimum Requirements
Fully registered with SACPCMP as a CHSO or CHSM
NEBOSH Construction H&S Certificate or Diploma
NEBOSH Oil & Gas Certificate
Any other Oil & Gas Certification
National Diploma in Safety management
ISO 45001 & 9001 Implementation & auditor certification
Minimum 2 years relevant working experience in the oil and gas environment
Duties & Responsibilities
Assurance plan implementation and records i.e., audits, inspections, emergency drills, conduct planned task observation, risk assessment and method statement reviews, HSSE plan implementation, reviewing of; excavation plans, critical lifting plans; traffic management plans, fall protection plan etc., L3 management of L4 and L4 compliance, hold point compliance for oil and gas industry
The management of the implementation of remedial action plans and evidence to support close-out
Implementation of Management of Change Process and supporting evidence
Attend project planning meetings including the Construction Readiness Review
Assessments and approval of contractor(s) health and safety files
Attend the contractors site handover
Attend regular site, technical and progress meetings
Participate in site health and safety meetings
Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the construction project through regular coordinated site inspections
Establish and maintain health and safety communication structures and systems
Testing the effectiveness of the emergency response plans
Ensure that site HSSE inductions are performed
Evaluate the levels of compliance of contractors to the clients HSSE standards and legal requirements through inspections and audits
Participate in the reporting and investigation of project related incidents
Oversee the maintenance of all records
Prepare periodic HSSE reports at prescribed intervals in relation to HSSE matters and submit to the HSSE Manager and Project Manager. Participate in contractor toolbox talks, blue zone engagements, LFI engagements etc. to ensure effectiveness of the sessions feedback to be provided in HSSE reports
Ensure adherence to and implementation of the Construction Readiness Plan, where changes are made and as applicable Construction Readiness Plan to be updated and Management of Change records retained
Ensure that contractors prepare and submit a consolidated HSSE close out file in electronic format with 14 days of completion of their work
