Operator Compressor Room at McCain Foods

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

• To operate a Refrigeration plant for the supply of Refrigeration to the processing plant, Cold Rooms and Gourmet plant

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Efficient running of the Refrigeration Plant

• Pre start check to be done on the Refrigeration plant
• Pre start check to be done on the Tunnels and compressors
• Refrigeration tunnels must be operated within the tunnel design pressure
• Safe operation of the Refrigeration plant
• Monitor Ammonia levels in the plant
• House keeping
• Ensure that the Refrigeration is safe for operation before start up ( Ammonia levels, Compressor temps and machine guarding etc )
• Check condition of the Tunnels during the shift and make changes to reach production line rates
• Work close with Production to know when to stop and start plant
• Run only necessary compressors to save energyEffluent Treatment Operations:

Daily recording of the Refrigeration Logbook

• Legal requirement to complete a log book during shift
• Record tunnel and cold room temps during each shift
• Constantly monitor. manage Compressor pressure and record 

Efficient Running and monitoring of the condensers water system

• Ensure that water condensers is operation
• Measure water usage on condensers
• Cleaning of condensers

Reporting problems in Refrigeration Plant

• Work with technicians to run plant as efficiently as possible
• Help technician when we have problems in refrigeration plant
• Call Services or standby Sup when there is a breakdown in refrigeration plant
• Shift hand over to be done when leaving or receiving Shift

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Certifications:

• Grade 12/High school diploma or equivalent required/N3
• Added advantage- Cat A SAQCC Gas registration

Experience:

• 1 year experience in Refrigeration
• Basic hand tool skills
• Ability to read pressures and temperatures

Skills & Knowledge:

• Some understanding of OHSACT regulations
• Understanding of Major Hazard Installations
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Holding him/herself and others accountable to meet all commitments
• Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
• Team player, but can function on his/her own
• Values safety and quality
• Knowledge of working with tools
