Operator - Mechanical Plant Grade 2 based at Wolfgat & Table Bay Nature Reserve at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• Basic literacy
• A valid code 14 (EC and EB) driver’s licence
• 2 years’ experience in operating a water-based mechanical weed harvester and tipper truck with grab crane operation
• Ability to operate varied mechanical plant is an added advantage
• Nature Conservation or equivalent experience is an added advantage
• Physically fit and able-bodied
• Sound interpersonal skills
• Certificates in small plant will be an added advantage
• A skill in basic map reading and navigation is an added advantage
• Bilingual in two of three official languages of the Eastern and
• Western Cape (Afrikaans/ English/ IsiXhosa) is an added advantage
• Skipper’s licence is an added advantage

Key Performance Areas

• Operating a water-based mechanical weed harvester and a tipper truck with grab crane operation
• Load, remove and transport material from conservation sites to land fill sites
• Assisting with the collection and delivery of stores material as needed on conservation sites
• Inspection of vehicles and reporting on any faults
• Maintenance of vehicle log books
• Reporting on operations and quantities of materials transported and disposed of, to stakeholders
• Performs specific tasks associated with the operation of vehicle / plant / equipment during general maintenance activities of recreational areas and open spaces
• Reporting adverse environmental conditions
• Interacting with stakeholders on an ad hoc basis
