Operator: Refinery (Electro-Gold) X3 at Rand Refinery

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

• The purpose of this role is to operate Electro-Gold, grain casting and or GDP processes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCTION TARGETS & DELIVERABLES         

• Running gold electrolytic process;
• Accounting for all inputs and outputs of the electrolytic process;
• Melting and granulation of cathode;
• Melting of sludge, stubs, and slag to minimize work in progress;
• Precipitation of Gold and Platinum Group Metals;
• Execution of weekly stock take;
• 100% participation of monthly and quarterly stock take.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCES

• First pass efficiency on electrolytic banks >76%;
• Granules pass rate >96%;
• Drives timeous and accurate reporting through production logs & performance feedback on shift basis;
• Ensure that daily production targets are executed & feedback is provided to the supervisor.

SAFETY COMPLIANCE 

• Complies with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees;
• Always wear the correct PPE and advise team members accordingly;
• Participate in daily toolbox meetings and section’s monthly safety meetings.
   

QUALITY         

• Run the equipment as per procedure and carry out the necessary checks to ensure the following quality specification is met:
• Cathode: Au content >99.99;
• Granules: 9999 – Au >99.9905 and 9950 – 99.505 < au < 99.515.

COST

• Ensure cost control of consumables e.g. Reporting faulty equipment to minimise further damage, using and storing; PPE correctly, taking care of consumables that are being used on daily basis;
• Minimise re-work by carrying out tasks as outlined in the procedure.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

• Preference will be given to a candidate that has a completed matric qualification with mathematics and science.
   

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

• Computer literacy –MS office;
• Good communication skills;          
• Do basic trouble shooting by referring to procedures;
• Provide clear routine communication in connection with instructions, requests, or normal work tasks;
• Operate equipment and be able to complete the checklist accurately.
   

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

• Preference will be given to candidates that have 1 years’ experience in a precious metal’s environment;
• Knowledge of Electro-gold processes (technical and troubleshooting);
• Understanding of Electro-gold process hazard and risks;
• SHEQ knowledge - Able to conform to the various departmental safety requirements.
