Oracle and Cloud Database Engineer at Old Mutual

Job Description

This is a Senior level role in the DBA environment requiring the incumbent to work with IT Teams : Developers. Architects, IT Infrastructure to develop an understanding of data and information needs. Identify solutions and improve the quality of Database Administration services while providing support through the physical design of databases.

The role requires taking responsibility for maintaining the integrity and performance of the supported databases and guarantee the data is stored securely and efficiently. The Sr. DBA will also provide strategic guidance and participate in the design of operational processes. In addition, the roles provides the opportunity to participate in the migration and support of Databases hosted in AWS.

Database Management

Participate in the development and maintenance of strategic and tactical plans for the database environment

• Works closely with key infrastructure and application development stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership to the DBA team members.
• Participates in the configuration, tuning and troubleshooting of the databases in use in Development, QA and Production.
• Ensures storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures function correctly.
• Assist in recovery and maintenance of databases.
• Participates in patch applications and upgrades.
• Provide individual mentoring and training on databases and tools. Recommend, test, and evaluate new technologies, software tools, and required skill sets; recommend and implement improvements.
• Refines the design ensuring it meets system storage and physical data model requirements.
• Writes database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for
• the data dictionary, including maintaining industry best practices.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Oracle RDS, Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, Athena, as well as AWS Database Migration Service
• Advanced administration experience with 1 or more of the following Database engines: Oracle /PostgreSQL / MariaDB / Amazon Auroral
• Experience in Oracle WebLogic Server Administration
• Experience with System Administration with Linux (RedHat, Oracle Linux) and/or Microsoft Windows Server and associated technologies (Active Directory, Exchange) advantageous
• Experience or firm knowledge of Automation Required. (SQL, Shell, Java Python, AWS CloudFormation)
• Experience in DevOps, NoOps toolsets and practices advantageous
• Experience with Networking and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching,
• firewalls, LAN/WAN or related)
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Science / Information Technology, Engineering or a related field OR equivalent experience in a technical position
