    Oracle Database Administrator

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, education and production usage.
    • Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases.
    • The DBA works closely with system administration staff because computers often have applications or tools on them in addition to the Oracle Databases.
    • Performs on-going tuning of the database instances.
    • Install new versions of the RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the databases.
    • Plan and implement backup and recovery of the databases. (Using current backup and recovery tools used by Company)
    • Controls migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes and menu changes through the development life cycle.
    • Implements and enforces security for all of the Databases. C-35
    • Performs database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime of the database.
    • Puts standards in place to ensure that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security and performance.
    • The DBA will perform reviews on the design and code frequently to ensure the site standards are being adhered to.
    • Evaluates releases of Oracle, Microsoft and MongoDB and its tools, and third-party products to ensure that the database instances are running the products that are most appropriate.
    • Planning is also performed by the DBA, along with the application developers and System administrators, to ensure that any new product usage or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact.
    • Provides technical support to application development teams.
    • This is usually in the form of a help desk.
    • The DBA is usually the point of contact for Oracle dependencies.
    • Enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure integrity of the databases.
    • Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures.
    • Assists with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects.
    • Troubleshoots with problems regarding the databases, applications and development tools.
    • Create new database users as required.
    • Manage sharing of resources amongst applications.
    • The DBA has ultimate responsibility for the physical database design.

    Skills and Experience

    • The Oracle, MongoDB and MSSQ DBA will be required to perform critical tasks, for this a broad background is required.
    • System Analysis & Design skills – The Oracle, MongoDB and MSMSSQL DBA must take an active role in the analysis and design of new database systems.
    • Knowledge of data flow diagrams, data dictionary techniques, CASE tools, Entity-relation modelling and design techniques are required.
    • Physical Disk Storage skills – Understanding of disk hardware architecture, RAID implementation, cache controllers, and disk load balancing are required of the DBA.
    • Data Security skills – An understanding of relational database security including role-based security.
    • Backup and Recovery skills – The backup and recovery methods involve third-party software (Backup Exec / Snap Manager), the DBA should have experience implementing backup and recovery methods. (Including disaster recovery)
    • Change Control Management skills – In many cases the DBA will be responsible for implementing change control and ensuring that changes to the production database are properly coordinated.
    • Oracle Database Upgrades to 12c and future releases (Including MongoDB)

    • Must have at least five years individual experience gained within the last eight (8) years of administrating Oracle and MSSQL databases (DBA).
    • Must have at least three years’ experience gained within the last 5 years for Oracle Performance Tuning.
    • Must have at least three years’ experience gained within the last 5 years of applying Oracle patches.
    • Must have at least three years’ experience gained within the last 5 years of Oracle backup and recovery technology.
    • Oracle Database Upgrades to 19c and future releases
    • Apply Industry best practices relevant to the Company environment.

    • Additional oracle experience (minimum 5 years):
    • Proven experience with Oracle Spatial Data
    • Experience with Oracle Application Life Cycle
    • Proven experience with MongoDB Administration
    • Proven experience with MSSQL

     DBA Skills:

    • A good knowledge of the operating system(s) (Windows, Linux)
    • A good knowledge of physical database design
    • Ability to perform both database and operating system performance monitoring and the necessary adjustments.
    • Be able to provide a strategic database direction for the organisation.
    • Excellent knowledge of database backup and recovery scenarios.
    • Good skills in all database tools.
    • A good knowledge of all database security management.
    • A good knowledge of how all databases acquires and manages resources.
    • Acquire sound knowledge of the applications at company.
    • Experience and knowledge in migrating code, database changes, data and menus through the various stages of the development life cycle. 
    • A good knowledge of the way all databases enforces data integrity.
    • A sound knowledge of both database and program code performance tuning. 
    • DBA should have sound communication skills with development teams, systems administrators, and other related service providers.
