Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation, Tourism Management, or any other related qualification.
A Postgraduate Degree in related discipline or MBA will be an added advantage.
Six years related middle management experience.
Working knowledge of relevant conservation legislation
Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft packages
Sound knowledge of statutory governing National Parks incl. NEMA: PAA, MPA, PFMA, etc.
Good written and verbal communication, negotiation, project management, conflict resolution and community liaison skills
Willingness to work long and irregular hours as well as extensive travelling
Sound organisational, administrative and negotiation skills
A valid driver’s license
Responsibilities
Ensuring long-term ecological and economic sustainability of the Section
Managing implementation and administration of policies and budget according to operational plans and relevant legislation
Ensuring that the necessary conservation planning, and development takes place to enhance the parks natural, cultural and scenic resources.
Ensuring that management of the Section is guided by relevant research and monitoring
Ensuring compliance with legal and policy provisions pertaining to the Section
Ensuring that operational impacts on the environment are avoided or minimised
Implementing effective Human Resources Management
Implementing the Socio-Economic Transformation strategy, including the development of mutually beneficial relationships with park users, neighbouring communities, NGO’s, local government and other associated organisations and individuals
