    Peer Field Ambassador

    Job Advert Summary    

    • TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation. We provide health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, sex workers and people who use drugs. THC provides a stimulating work environment and the opportunity to work with leaders in the field of HIV and TB prevention and care.     • Acting as role models to support and report to the CCID field workers by guiding their peers, the homeless population in the central business district (CBD), to the relevant resources available.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Grade 10 qualification
    • Minimum 1 years’ work experience in the PWID Community or experience as a peer educator 
    • Homeless or previously homeless
    • Possession of a smart phone
    • Age – 25 to 55 years
    • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends
    • Competent in English and one other South African language

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Continuous used needle clean ups within CBD
    • Housing / shelter placements minimizing the prevalence of homelessness among substance users.
    • The provision of psychosocial services to promote work-readiness, group, and individual therapeutic support to the team and the peers they engage with.
    • Provide a platform that motivates individuals with substance use disorders toward better stability and accountability. Opportunities to participate in the Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) program enhance this benefit

    Skills and Competencies    

    • Willing to access shelter or integrated living spaces
    • Service delivery and client focused skills and/or experience
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Knowledge and understanding of the homeless community
    • Good communication skills
    • Non-judgmental, trustworthy and empathetic personality
    • Good attention to detail and accuracy
