Adult education and Training (AET/ABET) Level 3 or equivalent (Grade 9 ).
Skills/ Knowledge/ Competence: Understanding of Batho Pele Principles, Patients Right Charter, Occupational Health and Safety.
Experience: Appropriate porter experience in a hospital environment. Must be able to work on standby and overtime including weekends and public holidays.
Must be of sober habits, physically fit patients and heavy equipment. Physically able to be on one's feet for a long period. Must be prepared to handle bodies (corpses). Willing to work a 12 hour shift system, weekends, public holidays, night duty and overtime. Posses physical strength and cope with physical demands of the post.
Duties:
Loading and offloading patients from private cares, and ambulances, accompany walking and non-walking patients to different clinical areas around the hospital. Collection of corpses around medical, casualty, surgical, emergency / trauma unit, X-ray department and any other area of the hospital to the mortuary. Making sure that PPE and waste are segregated properly.
Collecting of unused equipment's around the hospital and reporting of lost, damaged, or dysfunctional equipment. Must be prepared to rotate and operate as a reliever in all sections when requested by Supervisor/Manager. Cleaning of equipment including wheelchairs, preparing them for re-use and covering stretches with clean linen.
Daily submission of production sheets to the Supervisor/ Manager. Wearing of nametags for identification is compulsory. Adhere to instructions given by Supervisor/ Manager to relieve in any department in case of shortage.
